Thanks so much everyone!! I cannot leave on Friday until 1pm but the Miami tip, Lois's advice, Marion's suggestions and the others are fabulous. Right now Turks and Caicos, Puerto Rico and possibly Cancun have the best flight times for me. I'll let you know soon... Thanks. Threehearts

It's so cold here that smiling is painful...cracks and permanent wrinkles might set in. But the idea that my favorite Jamaica expert knows of Goose Rocks made me risk it and I did smile :-) ! Thanks for that....and now I will be silent ;-) ! Marion |
American flies Dulles to Montego Bay via Miami and gets in 11:30 AM. Jamaica Inn is a quiet, charming, relaxing place. Return doesn't have to leave before late afternoon.

How funny! Marion, ThreeH, and Tiverton, count me in as another GR fan! We spend a good part of the summer there.
"It's so cold here that smiling is painful...cracks and permanent wrinkles might set in." HA! This is SO true. Every winter for the past ten, I've seen more set in. |
At long last, I've made my decision. As I procrastinated all of the hotel rates went up and the available flights went down. What a suprise(LOL)! I used 60k United miles for a standard award. No Saver awards were available. I am going to Cancun on Saturday morning and staying at the JW Marriott. I'll leave for home at 4pm on Monday. These are non-stop flights with good seats as we're elite on United. I did this exact same trip w/my husband last year and we really enjoyed the resort. I have a deluxe oceanfront room with a balcony reserved w/ the AAA rate of $340/night. It might sound high but since the air is using miles and I'm not a huge eater, it was much less expensive than a pkg. on Priceline, Site59 or Expedia and I get Marriott points. Wish me well. The weather looked better in Cancun than anywhere else this weekend although Puerto Rico was a close second. Threehearts

Threehearts: Have a margarita for me. It is 20 degrees in Va with snow on the ground. BRRRRR!!!

Marion/Spent many a childhood summer there (and stay with friends now for long weekends). Remember the old 'gypsy' encampment at the far far end?
|
Hi Tivertonhouse...
I moved here in 1995, so don't remember the gypsy encampment. I wish they would come back ! We could use a little diversity up here ;-) ! I do remember sneaking off to observe the "holy rollers", as my parents referred to them, and enjoying that experience :-) ! Marion |
Marion:Suggestion for a little diversity -- a quick road trip from Kport: Portsmouth's 'The Green Monkey' restaurant, across from Ronnie Bourgeault's brick Federal auction house/dinner only -- best bet is to eat at the bar. 'Pesce Blue', by an Ian Schrager trained owner, is also very very good.
