I'm curious...has anyone here visited Miss June's lately? I was there in November 05 and my experience was, well, disappointing. The food was good, but the wine did not "flow" (in fact the waitress explained she was instructed not to pour any more wine - this was before the third course), and Miss June hardly spoke. Also, nobody could tell us the price in E.C. dollars (we only had EC with us) - the hostess asked us to calculate it ourselves (she had a calculator and we did not). Instead of making the rounds visiting the tables (as I had heard she does), I found her in the bar arguing loudly with her chef when I went to the Ladies Room. Weird. I really wanted to like Miss June's...and I'm hoping it was a fluke.

Joan, how much was the dinner at Miss June's? Guess she wanted you to pay in US$'s.

We didn't go there, but I'm interested in your account, because it's always described as a joyous dinner party. I seem to remember reading somewhere that Oprah encouraged her to open a restaurant.

Thanks for posting about it. There seem to be few firsthand descriptions.

Joan-
I had read your report before going to Nevis which is why we DIDN'T eat at Miss June's. I think they couldn't have made it any clearer to you that they wanted to be paid in US dollars than if they hit you with a brick and that's not good service. Also, we discovered when we were in Nevis that there are no borders when it comes to celebrities. One of the staff at the FS told us about Oprah and John Travolta coming into the hotel from her boat parked offshore from the hotel. So, I'm sure that Miss June was on her very best behavior for Oprah.
We were pleased with all of the choices that we did make and never missed going there.

I went to Nevis in '03 so there's probably more current info. We stayed at FS and loved it. Ate at Sunshine's one night & it was insane. Something you must experience. Go early because after waiting at our table for a very long time, the waiter finally acknowledged us & told us they were out of fish. Somehow they came up with some. My husband said he thought our waiter was "stoned". After dinner, we wanted to pay & were sent to the bar to recite an accounting of what we had ordered. Picnic tables in the sand. It was fun, but go with a laid back attitude expecting very informal service! We also ate at Bananas & absolutely loved it. Great food & great service. Very peaceful. Miss June's was not open because it was summer & was considered off season.

Miss Junes is about $65 US PP. It was actually Steadman who encouraged her to open.

MIM04 Mar 21st, 2006 07:18 AM

Knowing - that is exactly why a lot of celebs. go there because no one bothers them and they are treated more like regular people :)
There is almost always someone there who is famous. Funny thing though, a lot of people do not recognize them at all, people who in the states would be recognized right away.

Price update for Mrs. Junes is $85.00US everythings going up these days. Just FYI!!

MIM04 Mar 21st, 2006 10:10 AM

Oh, thanks Jason. I just heard today it was $65.

chefjason Mar 22nd, 2006 07:55 AM

Kinda funny after I saw your post I started to do some calling. I called 4 seasons they told me $85.00. Oualie it seems was getting it for our guest at $65.00, but it is now $75.00.

So I called Mrs. June and she told me it is $86.00 which includes all you wine, sherry, cocktail party and of course the food. But she did say she is barely breaking even and she is getting tired, no idea her age but its getting up there. So if your going to try this ICON of Nevis go quick. She did say she give 1/2 off for children, but really doesn't want children under 12years old. It is a late night affair and I would have to agree with her, this is an adult night out.

So there you have it from the lady herself. LOL

MIM04 Mar 22nd, 2006 09:05 AM

Yes, I definitely would not bring kids, it is not fun for them at all. That is interesting about the prices. I know that a lot of people still do get the $65 rate though, so who knows.
I will see June next week so I will ask her too.
