Local Provo restaurant question

Is there any suggestions to one great local restaurant (for the locals)? Thanks, SG

Try Hole in the Wall Restaurant. On Tuesday they have a seafood buffet with live rake and scrape music starting at 7 PM. They will provide transportation Call 941-4136.

For lunch try Bugaloos out in Blue Hills.

on the corner where you turn to the airport is an extremely bright building. i think its called lamonts. its a place that "locals" go.haven't stopped so can't speak for great

I just got back last night. Bugaloos is wonderful but very far out of the way. I'd recommend Carter's Cafe which is right next to Danny Boy's. I went there as was the only non-local and really enjoyed the food.

Our favorite is local food.

We last went to Provo in 2002, and our faves (in order of best) were:

Mackie's
Smokey's
Where It's At
Bugaloo's

I would avoid Mackie's.

We were ripped off there in December. The prices (on a blackboard) mysteriously increased between the time we ordered and the time we paid.

I think it was the "non-locals markup."

cdt,
We went to Mackie's three times in two weeks and never had a problem.

Maybe they charged you in EC and you misunderstood and paid in dollars - I don't know - but the prices ARE clearly marked on the blackboard for all to see. Seems to me like that would make it difficult to charge variable prices.

If you were charged something different than what is posted, you should have said something about it at the time and allowed them a chance to correct/clarify it instead of saying you were "ripped off" (this is not the first time you've posted that).

Diana, I'm glad your experiences at Mackie's were positive. We have traveled extensively and there is no doubt in my mind what happened to us there, but perhaps it was because of one unscrupulous employee, rather than owners/managers.

Prices were written on the blackboard in dollars when we arrived. When we were presented with a bill, about 30-40% higher, they had been erased. We discussed the matter at some length with the one gentleman working there but made no progress, so finally just paid and left.

The food was very good.

Wow. That certainly does seem suspicious. It's a shame your inquiries were met with such resistance. (That in itself is rather telling.)
We have had quite a few situations in Mexico and the Caribbean where we were overcharged and brought it to the person's attention.
In most cases, the person seemed to have added (manually) incorrectly; they apologized and changed the amount, and the mistake appeared to be unintentional.
Only once or twice did we ever feel that was not the case.
I hope the person you encountered no longer works there.
