just back from 2 months in Turks and Caicos

I will post a trip report in a couple of days, in the meantime, ask away!

I always wanted to go to T&C but the fear of it not being HOT enough deterred me;; simply b/c I always travel in late Feb or early Mar. So, how was the weather?

caribtraveler Feb 5th, 2006 06:31 AM

Hi there. I do have a couple of questions if you don't mind. Turks and Caicos is one of the places we're thinking about for an anniversary trip in October. What's the latest with contruction around Grace Bay Club? We're also considering Turks and Caicos Club. Which of the 2 places you think is best and why? (I've seen some of your other posts and you seem to know everything about Provo). Price is not an issue. We do like quiet and beaches that are not ridiculously crowded. Since this trip will be without our 4-year-old, we just want to lay on the beach, go to great restaurants and do pretty much nothing else.
Thanks for your help/thoughts.

I've been looking at weather.com to check the weather, as we are fast approaching our trip.

It shows rain almost every day!!!

Is it like Grand Cayman where the showers hit for 5-10 minutes and go away, or are we talking a good rain almost every day??? Yikes, thinking of putting away some of the tank tops and packing a couple rain ponchos!!! :)

blamona Feb 5th, 2006 07:09 AM

The weather in last 61 days:
It rained 1 full day the second day we were there, the next 60 days were totally sunny.
There were 2 overcast with no rain mornings, but completely cleared up in afternnon. Passing showers late over night a couple of times.
The wind for 1 week was a little ferocious, but that is very unsual. Still sunny and could hang out at the pool, just not really snorkel or do excursions that week. (To be fair, the whole East Coast had unusual winds that week)
Both TCClub and GBC are gorgeous, I like GBC a little more. TCClub is a little quieter, it's kind of by itself at the end of Grace Bay, but GBC is not crowded by any means. GBC is more centrally located, and I think prettier. TCClub feels like a home away from home, GBC feels like a luxurious resort. They are finishing off the new "estates" section, by that I mean moving furniture and finishing touches, so ask for a completed section.

Two months, eh? That sounds mighty nice to me. Glad you're back and I'm looking forward to reading about the highlights of your stay. Do you own a home there, Blamona? Or did you rent a villa?

virginia Feb 5th, 2006 01:45 PM

welcome home. enjoyed the weather recap!
caribtraveler if you go try tiki hut restaurant at turtle cove marina. very kid friendly. good food.
can't wait to read your trip report...

blamona Feb 5th, 2006 05:28 PM

I did not go to Coco Bistro on this trip, but I've been a couple of times before. Beautiful setting, decent food, but once got eaten alive by mosquitos, another time the staff wasn't very pleasant. Still, not enough to keep me away, and I will return.

Differences between Caymans and Provo (This is only my opinion.)
I have not dived either, but I snorkeled both. Both excellent, but I've seen more different types of fish in Provo. Just off the beach at Coral Gardens, I swam with an Eagle Ray, turtles, saw flounder, squid, very cool.

Cayman is built up, but I was there before the hurricane. Lots of chain restaurants, a lot more to do. Stingray City is always fun.

Provo is quieter, although there is a lot of construction going on. No chain restaurants, more "boutique" type resorts.

Caymans has the cruise ships, Provo is a lot quieter.

The weather I think is consistently better in Provo.

While 7 Mile Beach in Caymans is pretty, I find Grace Bay Beach in Provo to be one of the most spectacular in the world.

blamona Feb 5th, 2006 05:29 PM

ejcrowe: I have a house in
Provo. (I know, I know, I'm very lucky)

caribtraveler Feb 7th, 2006 11:30 AM

Virginia: I just noticed your suggestion. Thanks so much. Actually this will be a "hot date" trip, meaning without the little guy. Kid-friendly places will be avoided. :-)

blamona Feb 7th, 2006 11:47 AM

caritraveler:
hot date restuarants
Best atmosphere:Anocoana
Best romantic food:Mongolia and Coyoba
Grace's Cottage
Runner's up: (But you may see a few kids) Bay Bistro

And most romantic of all:
Private lunch excursion on a secluded beach. They will set up table on the shore, leave you with food and drinks, come back and get you when you decide. Usually at Half Moon Beach or around there, which is spectacular!

caribtraveler Feb 7th, 2006 12:03 PM

Blamona: Thank you!!
I think GBC will work best for us. Our anniversary is Oct. 1st and that's the day TCC reopens. We'd rather be on the island on our anniversary day.
I have seen pictures of Half Moon beach and it looks INCREDIBLE. I didn't realize I could arrange for a private lunch excursion which sounds like heaven on earth. Would I do that through the hotel?
Thanks again.

blamona Feb 7th, 2006 02:28 PM

caribtraveler:
sorry I can't spell, it's restaurant, not restuarant, and it's Magnolia's, not Mongolia's.

Check out:
www.JBTours.com
or www.sailprovo.com
for the lunch excursion.

virginia Feb 7th, 2006 05:44 PM

carib, hmm i can't read and blamona can't spell - but we are well intended. lol.
now WithOut the youngster i agree anacona is the most romantic on island.
boat/beach/lunch sounds very nice too!

caribtraveler Feb 8th, 2006 07:42 AM
