Diving's pretty tame off Negril as the reef's been affected by pollution. Pedro Cays is a series of islands and shoals with dozens of old Spanish shipwrecks now being explored by licensed salvagers from the States. Some are stay=over points for fishers, some have a reputation as safe haven for 'bad boys' afoul of the law. It's rough and gritty -- not a place from a bodice-ripper romance novel, nor Pirates of the Caribbean. In season, thousands of seabirds nest on the furthest islets.
