Just to mix it up a bit, in addition to going to many of the Caribbean Islands mentioned, we've been to the islands off Alaska, Stanton Island, England, Venice, Japan, etc.

I really participate in this forum to get and give information of "real" value to fellow travelers.
So, other than "one-up" or for passing idle time what value do 100+ folks receive from responding to this question.
I have asked about Andros Island, Bahamas and 3 resorts on the island and received 1 informative answer of a traveler who was there in the last 12 months.I asked on Lonely Planet and received 3 travelerrs who provided valuable information.
So, help me understand, please?

Carola22 Oct 17th, 2006 11:16 PM

I do find this forum very helpful - I asked a question here about Barbados and St. Vincent a few weeks ago, and immediately received a number of very useful and informative replies. Conversely, I try to respond whenever someone asks a question about an island or resort that I know. Responding to this question (about how many islands one has visited) is just fun, because you can check for yourself which islands you did visit. Also, as you can tell from this thread, and in that sense it IS useful! there aren't that many people on this forum who visited Andros island, which is probably why you didn't get many replies.

Since we're just having fun; in no particular order. All included at least one overnight; some visited multiple times:

Aruba
Curacao
St. Thomas
St. John
St. Croix
Virgin Gorda (honeymoon)
St. Kitts
Nevis
Puerto Rico
Barbados
Antigua
Grand Cayman
Martinique
Turks and Caicos (Provo)
Anegada
George Dog Island (day sail; ended up naming my 1st dog George after it.)
St. Martin/St. Maarten (both sides)
Anguilla

Close enough; was there:
Grand Bahama
Nassau
Cancun

Plus, stranded with wife on a dock in Tortola on first night of honeymoon b/c of a connection snafu, but that's a different story (and, yes, we're still happily married).

StanKase Oct 18th, 2006 08:23 AM

Fun is GOOD! I just thought forum was originally designed to ask specific questions

I acknowledge Andros, Bahamas, while the largest of the Bahamian Islands, only has 5-6 resorts and maybe 10 little motel/hotels.
But with folks visiting Culebra, Bequi, Harbour Island and Cooper Island, etc., it just seemed surprising to me.
Have FUN.

I am posting in this thread because this is where to people in the know seem to be.

We're going to be returning to San Juan from a cruise on Sat. 11/18. We have rented a Jeep and plan to leave early on Sunday morning, drive through El Yunque, then drive to Fajardo in the afternoon and fly to Vieques for the night. Any suggestions on which airline to use from Fajardo to Vieques, where to stay in Vieques, and which biobay tour to do? I hear that Vieques is a beautiful Island, but we are basically only going for one night to do the biobay tour. After our cruise, we will probably be beached out. Any comments would be appreciated.

bluewater63 Oct 18th, 2006 08:30 AM

Any suggestions on day excursions would also be greatly appreciated. Our cruise will be stopping at:
St. Thomas
St. Maarten
Antiqua
St. Lucia
Barbados

Thanks!

Only a few - Puerto Rico, Antigua, St. Maarten & Montserrat. Unless I can count all the Keys or maybe Kelley's Island in Lake Erie...I'm stuck @ 4 for now, & I'll not being adding to the list my next trip in February either.

zuni17 Oct 21st, 2006 08:03 PM

I don't think I can remember all of them but I'll try:

Aruba
Jamaica x 4
St. Lucia x 2
St. Martin/St. Maarten
St. Croix
St. Thomas
Grand Cayman
Puerto Rico
Dominican Republic
Martinique
Guadeloupe

Not in the Caribbean:

Nassau
Turks & Caicos
Bermuda
Kauai x 4
Maui
The Big Island
Oahu
Isla Mujueres (? spelling)
Cozumel

That's all I can think of. Probably missed some. I have so many more to add to that list when I get to them!!!

TnTWalter Oct 25th, 2006 02:09 PM

This is fun.

Nassau & Paradise Island, Bahamas
Grand Cayman
Aruba
St. Thomas
Provo, T&C
Cancun & Playa Del Carmen Mexico (although not islands)
Trish

It IS fun, and something I'd never thought much about. For us, it's:

Hawaii, (Oahu and Maui)
Bahamas (Nassau, Grand Bahama Island,
Paradise Island)
Cozumel (does that count?!) :)
Puerto Rico
Vieques
St. Thomas
St. John (moored overnight and swam)
Tortola
Virgin Gorda

Those in my dreams--too numerous to mention!

JAGIRL, thanks for the fun post!

Bluewater63, for best results, start a new thread with your question. It fell between the cracks on this thread!

If you're not "bent" on travel to Vieques, I'd suggest a drive down to Ponce, over to La Parquera (where there is also a bioluminesent bay), a visit to San German, founded in 1507, up to the surf mecca of Rincon, over to Moca, where there is a museum dedicated to handmade mundillo lace (fascinating to watch)--and back to San Juan area along the north shore.

My daughter and I recently did this tour of the western side and it was SUCH fun. Less American influence, more typical Puerto Rican. We spent 2 nights, but it could be done in one. We also did some hiking in Guanica dry forest, west of Ponce. LOVED the Ponce Hilton resort. The Castillo Serrillos (sp?) in Ponce is fascinating as well--home of the Serrilles family of Don Q rum fame.

shillmac Oct 25th, 2006 06:22 PM

Oops, forgot Bocas del Toro, off the east coast of Panama--loved it there. Visit 3 of the islands in the archapeligo. My list is looking more respectable all the time! LOL!
