For $6000/week what is the absolute best Luxury Beach Resort Vacation?
For around $5000-$7000/for 1 week, what is the absolute most luxurious, beautiful beach caribben vacation....please post.

Cuisinart Resort & Spa in Anguilla
|
Round Hilla Villas in Montego is a beautiful property--celebrities vacation there. To me luxury is great but an all around positive experience is best--no stuffiness, great beach, excellent cuisine and attitude of staff and management--sometimes "luxury" resorts don't meet that criteria.

okay, who is this Hulbert character? Do you offer any suggestions other than Turks and Caicos. Don't get me wrong, it's a beautiful group of islands, just returned from Provo, but, buddy, enough is enough.......

|
Try something different, a crewed charter. That price range would get you a nice catamaran with a crew of two and the boat all to yourselves. You'll enjoy gourmet dining and you're waited on hand and foot. Different beaches daily, busy or deserted, your choice. No worries about anything, everything is done for you. You can choose a boat with tons of water toys for alot of activity or you can find one with a hammock to park yourself in for a week.

Do a google search for "crewed charter" and start looking at the boats. I reccomend using a yacht broker who sees the boats at the boat shows and knows the crews. No charge for their services and they can offer some valuable information and insights in addition to their services.

Hurlbutt is a commercial troll who sells villas and real estate in T&C. He's trying to drum up business. If I did that for my business I'd be rolled out of here on a stretcher. Best bet: look at his advice but book elsewhere.

I don't advise people to come or not to come to the Turks and Caicos. I just make mention my opinions of it. I'm sure some of you will agree with my posting. I'm not advertising!!!
The only places I mention Turks and Caicos are where they are appropriate.

I'd never recommend Turks and Caicos to vacationers whom are looking to have alot of nite light on the islands itself.

I do indeed talk of the Turks and Caicos alot....especially because it is so small and people often times confuse it to be a part of the bahamas. WE ARE SO MUCH DIFFERENT.
There are some people that I've spoken to that know of Providenciales..but don't know of Turks and Caicos..HEHE

And there are some People that Know of Grace Bay but Don't know of Providenciales.

I do think though that this is a great place to make mention of Turks and Caicos. Especially for making its presence, quality and benifits know.

Ever notice there are No posting regarding Turks and Caicos in regards to its people...and being hassled.

Again, I'm sorry that you feel that there is too much of TCI posting by me..HEhe...and that its only commercial troll. ITS NOT THE Way it is though....No hard feelings.

We are still fellow fodors sharing opinion. Hope this clears it up

Hulbert

Le Toiny at St. Barts...12 cottages each with its own pool.
|
Le Toiny looks really nice.... but the question is BEACH resort, not HILLSIDE resort
|
Le Toiney is a beach resort, we spent two weeks there last July, better than heaven, and we walked down to the beach every morning and did amazing snorkelling, it is also a surfer's beach with nice waves. The nicest beach in St. Barths in terms of sand is Saline which has no development of any kind, just a big aqua bathtub. The island is tiny, it is just a ten minute ride in a little toy car from Le Toiney. We loved our own little beach in front of Le Toiney, though, and spent many romantic moments there all alone.

We've been on many beach vacations. I loved the French Polynesian Islands - Moorea and Bora Bora. The right time of year you can do it for $6,000. Truly my most favorite vacation. Great for couples.
Theresa

Why spend $6K a week when you could stay in a quaint, historical building like the Crystal Palace in St. Thomas ???? A room with a shared bath runs only $65 a night (plus 8% govt tax of course). 7th night free! Continental breakfast included, and view of the cruise ships from the upper level! Plus free pick up from the airport, and the chauffer Ronnie keeps a stash of the best ganja on the island. Don't go to one of those plastic resorts where they spritz you with Evian and spoon feed you sorbet on the beach... instead immerse yourself into the REAL Caribbean!
|
You and 3 hookers at the Holiday inn in Daytona.
|
The best vacation would be to rent the Salamander Villa in Mustique...in the Grenadines.
About 6,000 a week for a 4 bedroom 4 bathroom home overlooking the ocean...includes HUGE pool, maid, cook and a car!! check out http://www.islandhideaways.com/
|
I would like to thank the person posing as KarenW for the post recommending my place in St. Thomas. I don't quite think that this is what they are looking for, but they are most welcome.

Not welcome are your comments about the ganja. After saying those nice things you had to go an ruin it with a big lie. Why do you do this? You are really turning Fodor's into a garbage dump!
Ronnie

Karen,
St. Thomas is the OLD Caribbean? Lady, I've been going to the Caribbean since 1970, and while St. Thomas and St. Croix still had that old Caribbean feel back then, they sure don't now. Not with traffic jams and crime and cruise ships.
Those places are, and I say this sadly because I loved going there, well past their prime. They are a pale shadow of what they once were.

Mary,
Sandy Lane in Barbados; Jumby Bay in Antigua; as Doug suggested, a crewed charter, but in the Grenadines rather than the Virgins; a villa in St. Barts; or a villa on Carriacou, Canouan, Bequia, or Mustique in the Grenadines.

Now, Mary, be honest, are you really looking to drop 6 large on a vacation in the islands, or were you just looking to see who would say what to your post?
|
i am relaly looking for a good vacation spot....the suggestions have been great. i have narrowed it down to caribbean and/or french polynesia...(can anyoe compare the two?) also, i have decided we definitely dont want a private villa...it is 'too' secluded, prefer a resort type place etc....any other suggestions out there?

thanks!
|
Remember marni, mary, martha, janie etc., FP doesn't have the kind of bathrooms you are looking for either!
|
Mary: I have been to French Polynesia and a few Islands in the Caribbean. I love them both, but if I had to pick one I would choose French Polynesia. It really compares to no where I have been in the Caribben. We stayed in an over the water bungalow and had a coffee table in our living room that opened up so we could feed the fish! Yes, and you do get addicted to that! We had a double deck off our bungalow. We would wake up every morning and sans clothes jump into the lagoon and do our snorkeling. We rented a motor boat and traveled all over the lagoon. We were in Moorea where the land is the lushiest I have ever seen and in Bora Bora parts of the lagoon are emerald and a turquoise color that is just breathtaking. It's just a different feel that the Caribbean and much more expensive, especially the food. If it's a special occasion I would chose French Polynesia. It probably will cost more than $7,000 a week if you want a luxury resort. Also, I would suggest going for more than a week. It's 8 hours from LA and if you live on the east coast it may be a very long trip. I still wouldn't rule out the Caribbean. There are very beautiful islands with luxurious resorts. Good luck!
|
Now where did you stay that you could jump in the lagoon without clothes & snorkel! All the overwaters I have stayed in had way too may bungalows around for that activity!
|
To Wondering: We stayed at the Moana Beach Parkroyal. Clothing optional....actually everywhere in French Polynesian is clothing optional and 90% of the wowman go topless. Most of the time I went topless. A couple of times I went nude. Nobody really cares or looks. Most of the people there were European and they are use to nude sunbathing.
|
Have been to FP several times and have stayed at various places on Moorea and Bora-Bora. Hate to disagree with you but I never saw 90% of the woman topless. You did some some topless, but very, very few. And I never saw anyone sunbathing in the nude.
|
Well Nan, I hate to disagree with you, but at my hotel in Bora Bora all the woman I saw were topless, except one. I never said that I saw anyone sunbathing nude. I simply said that I jumped into the lagoon a couple of times nude. Actually, I never saw anyone on the beach. Most couples stayed on their decks or were in the lagoon.
|
And Europeans do not sunbathe nude except in small restricted areas.
Nude sunbathing is either forbidden or considered in poor taste in almost all areas (exceptions include little restricted areas like Tahiti Beach in St. Tropez, some of the islands of Greece, etc)
|
I did not mean that Europeans are use to nude sunbathing. What I meant to say is that they are use to topless woman on the beaches. I apologize if I offended any Europeans.

Even Le Toiny does not advertise themselves as beach resort. Imagine thinking you're staying at a "beach resort" and then realizing you have a major hike back up to your room from a second-rate beach...
