Back on line.

Headed for shelter after 9, breathed a sigh of relief after the 10pm advisory, as it appeared clear that Cayman would escape the full fury of Dean.

Winds woke me at 3am, but didn't feel anymore than 60mph (pah!)... and power stayed on.

Power went off around (as I recall) about 8am, but apparently stayed on for 15 of 23 substations on the island (way to go, CUC!).

Curfew was in effect until 2pm, but I was on the road long before that (legally, I had a curfew pass as had to assess damage on various properties).

Minimal damage to our properties, but some serious coastal waves and some storm surge damaged a number of properties in low areas.

Moved back home around 3pm, and just spent 6 hours or so starting to put the house back together, after packing away half of it.

Feels weird to be back home less than 24 hours after leaving for shelter.. with Ivan it was 4 1/2 months before I left the house where I had sought shelter.

This major hurricane stuff is no fun.

Tom, so good to hear you and others dodged a bullet!

I'm very happy to hear you are safe and Dean didn't cause you major damage! ((R))

I'm hoping my friends in Tulum are as lucky tonight. I'm quite worried.

Great news, Tom. Glad to hear from you.

Now, let's here from those Mexico folks...

Already getting word from PDC, all is well. Didn't even strip the flowers from the Bouganvilla.
Other than high surf, the pics from Playa.info forum are looking real good, sun is out and folks are hitting the streets. Apparently a lot of folks around Playa didn't even lose power.

I'm so glad Dean skipped past the Cayman Islands. You guys must be so relieved.

We were not so fortunate. The east and south coasts of the island were devastated.

The North Coast had damage but compared to the South & East our damage is really minimal. Neither power nor water have been restored completely as yet.

I hope you know that many thoughts and prayers are still with you !

Take care...
