Hi carolla22

No, you're not the only european on this forum, born in West Yorkshire, England moved to the south of England - which is almost a big of a deal of moving south within the US:-)

Lived within 30 miles of London for 15 years, now livng in MA and loving every minute of it. Hot summers, cold winters we have visitors who love the extremes. I hate it when it rains for too long it makes me feel homesick!

Born and raised in "steeler country", about 30 miles southeast of Pittsburgh.

Portsmouth NH and Jamaica -- via Boston, NYC, Istanbul, Vienna, Paris, London, Providence -- and way back, Nova Scotia.

tiver...Is Portsmouth near Hillsboro NH.My son has family who live in and around Hillsboro??Beautiful country up there.

Diana May 30th, 2005 07:30 AM

Great thread christiegr! Like you, we feel Raleigh has gotten too large and has lost a lot of its "Southernness." How 'bout Lizard Lick? ;)

I'm from Wilmington, NC but in Raleigh, NC (just north of Fuquay) since finishing college - UNC-CH - in 1988.

ejcrowe, I had to laugh when I read your comment about Pilot Mtn. I've been calling it Mt Ni%%le for years.

Trying to decide on whether to build on Nevis or Carriacou; or just to move from island to island each year. We love them ALL! :)

Very interesting to read where everyone is from...

tivertonhouse May 30th, 2005 09:41 AM

Christiegr -- Portsmouth's a much-touted 'hip' city with lots of 18th and 19th cen.'quaint' on the Seacoast;Hillsboro is due west inland about 80 min and country farms/lowland pine forest. Two different terrains and mindsets.

christiegr May 30th, 2005 11:43 AM

Diana..thats funny..we live in Fuquay-Varina.Alot of the people that I grew up with have moved either to this area (fuquay)or Knightdale area as Raleigh has grown too much.My cousin lives in Wilmington..pretty down that way.

tiver...I thought that Hillsboro was a cute, quaint town.

tmc..my mom is a Andy Griffith fan.Now you have refreshed my memory of Pilot mountain.. its near Mt. Airy.We live about 2 hours from there.Ever been to Morrow Mountain??

Suburban Philadelphia here.

I think of moving occasionally, but I can never figure out where the "perfect" place is. So I've decided to stay put and travel a lot!

I've lived in the Harrisburg, PA area all my life with the exception of the five years I was in Philadelphia for college. Michelle

I am from Scotland( Aberdeen). Love travelling to get away from the cold weather we have ALL the time!!

TomCayman May 30th, 2005 05:51 PM

From Cayman (naturally), but originally from Edinburgh, Scotland.

It would be great if everyone, when seeking advice on air fares, which island etc, would say where exactly they would be coming from.. helps with advice.

For example, if coming from (say) Atlanta for a 4 night break, then Cayman makes much more sense than Aruba (ie much closer)... but if coming from (say) New York, not much difference in distance.

Baltimore MD now. Born and raised in Southern Virginia.

ElleD9 May 30th, 2005 07:27 PM

Born in PHL and living in South Jersey the past 10 years. We love it here, but still love to visit the islands whenever we can.

Tom from Cayman, good to see your post - how are things coming along on island?

Carola22 May 30th, 2005 10:52 PM

To Alya: I know what you mean about weather extremes in the US - we lived in Boston for half a year followed by half a year in Cambridge, England - I loved the more gentle weather in England! (Like the people, sort of.... sorry about this outrageous generalization)

KDR May 31st, 2005 02:39 AM

I've been in Bethesda, MD or Washington D.C. for almost 10 years, but originally from Texas (mostly Dallas and Austin).
