best way to get around in PR
I would like to know what's the best way to get around San Juan and cost for taxi or other options. And best way to get around outside of San Juan (aside from renting a car) Thanks!

To get around San Juan would require taxis or a local bus.

There is no train or bus service from town to town so getting around the island would require a rental car. To get around San Juan you can use a taxi or a bus.

Renting a car is your best bet. Cabs are U.S. prices and it would add up quickly taking cabs anywhere far. Car rental prices are comparable to U.S. prices and driving is in PR is exciting but doable.

The best way in San Juan, is to rent a Car.... especially if you want to tour
the island. I think they have excursions from the Hotels to El Yunque,
Conquistador etc.... but not sure.
I have to agree once you add up taxi costs renting a car would be the way to go. If you are staying in a hotel and want to do some tours then book one through the hotel. Attractions are spread out geographically speaking, so renting a car is the only way to get from one place to another.

Thanks everyone for your reply. I think I will definitely rent a car then. I understand that most big hotels (where we'll probably stay) charges money to park. Can anybody suggest where else we can park? Can we park along the streets overnight? I don't mind if we have to walk 1-2 blocks away from our facility. Thanks, Emma

Emma - regarding parking - it depends where in San Juan your hotel is located. What hotel are you staying in? If it is in Condado or Old San Juan it is posible to find parking (you may need to drive around a bit). Isla Verde is much more difficult.

If we stay at a major hotel, it would probably be Caribe Hilton. Thanks.

Just a note - There isn't much on-street free parking near the Caribe Hilton. However, there is a sports complex with a huge parking nearby that has very reasonable rates and further up towards Old San Juan there used to be a free parking for beachgoers (but it may have turned into a pay-parking too).
