Ahhh, I didn't know about Honduras, so you've definitely topped me!

JAGIRL Jul 31st, 2006 02:24 PM

Barbuda?

JAGIRL Jul 31st, 2006 02:25 PM

Garifuna can be found in Belize. They are known as the Black Caribs.

tivertonhouse Aug 1st, 2006 05:55 AM

JA Girl/Sounds like you know your
'strong backs'. Barbuda it is. And yes, 'Black Caribs' also in Belize.

JAGIRL Aug 1st, 2006 06:05 AM

:D ahh Tiv. :D

I actually only knew about the exportation of pink sand.:">

Care to explain about the exportation of strong black men? ((?))

JAGIRL Aug 1st, 2006 06:13 AM

The national symbol of this island, the Amazona versicolor, though predominantly green in colour, has some red, yellow and blue.

((#)) B-)

ejcrowe Aug 1st, 2006 09:19 AM

Is that St. Vincent? I just visited the botanical gardens there and saw their parrots, so I should remember their names, but I don't...

JAGIRL Aug 1st, 2006 04:04 PM

Close ej...close.

I almost raised an open bottle of *Piton* to you. ** ;)**

But...[-X not quite.

ejcrowe Aug 1st, 2006 06:09 PM

ahh, then it must be St. Lucia. I don't have any Pitons here with me at home, but I can raise a Red Stripe in your general direction.

I'm afraid I don't have the energy to come up with another question. Either you run with the ball or pass it to Larry if he picks up this thread...

Good night!

=D> ejcrowe =D> ((y))

Anybody else want to go for it?

ejcrowe Aug 2nd, 2006 09:30 AM

Here's one. What is the anecdotal story given for the way the island of St. Martin/Maarten was divided between the French & the Dutch?

jacketwatch Aug 2nd, 2006 02:20 PM

Was it a race between a drunken Frneckman and a drunken Dutchman. Where they met would be the border. The Dutchman was a bit more tipsy so thus the Frenchman covered more ground and thats why the French side is larger.

JAGIRL Aug 2nd, 2006 03:47 PM

That's the story I've always heard jacketwatch :D

jacketwatch Aug 2nd, 2006 05:04 PM

I confess I have never heard it B4 but I did google it and that sounds far fetched enough. :D. Here's the story I found.:-)
Unofficially, there's a popular folk story about the partition of the island known as "the legend of the drunk Dutchman." This legend explains that the Dutch and French divided St. Maarten/Martin by means of a race. A Dutchman and a Frenchman stood back-to-back and started to walk around the island. The spot where the two would meet would determine the border. Legend has it that the Frenchman carried a flask of wine, and the Dutchman had a flask of old Dutch Gin. The Frenchman covered more ground and claimed 21 square miles of territory. The Dutchman, who supposedly stopped for several breaks to drink his gin, ended up with only 16 square miles.

ejcrowe Aug 3rd, 2006 05:07 AM

Yup, that was the story I heard, too. Take it away, Larry!

jacketwatch Aug 3rd, 2006 06:40 AM

OK lets try this one. Norman Island in the BVI's is said, according to local lore to be the location of what famous authors work about the Carribean? Who's the author and what is the work? This one shouldn't be too hard mateys. Arg! :S-

seasweetie Aug 3rd, 2006 07:09 AM

I do believe that's Robert Louis Stevenson's Treasure Island, isn't it?

jacketwatch Aug 3rd, 2006 08:52 AM

Give that lady a cupie doll. :D

seasweetie Aug 3rd, 2006 09:00 AM

Cupie doll accepted!

And to continue on...

What's the origin and the meaning of the name 'Virgin Gorda' in the BVIs?

Cigar or coconut (according to choice) goes to the correct answer....

JAGIRL Aug 3rd, 2006 09:11 AM

Chris Columbus knew nothing of political correctness when he named that island Fat Virgin.

According to my BVI friends, Columbus allegedly said the shape of the island reminded him of a...well proportioned woman lying down :">

I guess we know what was on his mind!
