Wildlife in Whistler

We plan to hike in the Whistler mountains. Any wildlife to be afraid of?

Bears - but I do not think you really need to be afraid - just show appropriate caution. NEVER run from a bear - slowly back away. Make lots of noise when hiking - that way you will not surprise them. When I was in Whistler I saw 2 bears - one near the town - we just went in the other direction and one up near the edge of the tree-line on the mountain - in both cases the bears just ignored us.

There's lots of "Wildlife in Whistler" especially during Spring Break!! Some of them are pretty scary but for the most part harmless!!

Most serious hikers in BC seem to have run into bears at some point or other. (I'm not a serious hiker, but this is from my conversations.) None had been injured.

There are lots of bears in Whistler, but that shouldn't deter you from hiking. Just be bear aware. Whistler tourism has a booklet that tells you how to react. We see 10 to 20 bears a year, while hiking, golfing, and one even walked across our deck while we were in the hot tub. That will get your adrenaline going!! There are lots of great trails. Enjoy!
