TOFINO -- what's the weather like in July?

Do you need a wetsuit to swim?

Does it rain a lot?

thanks,
dina

It's pretty much like the rest of the Pacific NW coast...generally warm and sunny, probably 60s and 70s, maybe in the 80s if we're having a heat wave ;-). Rain in early July would not be that unusual, but generally July is a dry month, even out there on the coast.

Not many people go swimming in the Pacific (it's just too darn cold, even in the summer!), but I suppose you could wear a wetsuit if you really wanted to get a swim in...or if you were going to take a surf lesson or something where you'd be in the water for a while.

there are a lot of people who surf there but i would recommend a wet suit.

I've been swimming at Tofino in July without a wetsuit, and I can officially confirm that it's COLD, and I have a fair bit of natural insulation. My brother, who was with me, and is not quite so well insulated, turned a slightly unnatural shade of blue.
I guess it depends on how you deal with really cold water - I don't really mind it and swim at Tofino every time i go, but I don't spend a long time out there.
If you get there and decide that it's just too damn cold, you can always rent a wetsuit.

I was there last summer in July. I would recommend wet shoes when wading in the water. That water is cold. If you want warm water, go visit the hot springs. July is usually pretty dry. Beautiful country. You will love it.

thanks so much! sounds like swimming is out, even though hanging out on the beach will be really fun.
