Panmure Island is beautiful , the beaches are very nice here , this is considered " Down East " , it is sort of a south shore beach but actually does have white sand beaches which is more typical of the north shore beaches .(Brackley ,Rustico , Cavendish , Stanhope , Dalvay ) Basin Head is another great area in this neck of the woods . But do not stress about being on the "best" beach , nothing is very far away . I am from Charlottetown and grew up spending most of my time on Brackley Beach , but if we wanted warmer water we would go to a south shore beach .... I will try to find you a site for the other request . Faith

Thanks, Faith! Ahhhh! Brackley Beach! :) :) I worked @ Shaw's Hotel Dining Room during University & had a great time on Brackley Beach! Lucky you having grown up there!!

Do you know a place on Panmure Island called "Sunset-by-the Sea"? That is one of the places that we are considering. They had an ad in the Globe & Mail recently. Apparently, the property is for Sale but it is also for rent. Can you tell me anything about it? Any other rec's??

WOW, you might find the following websites useful.
http://www.gov.pe.ca/

is where I ordered the PEI visitors guide (which I haven't received yet).

http://www.peisland.com/

has lots of info about rentals, and geography of the island. you'll find lots of rental options here.

And thanks everybody for your advice. I've booked my house rental on the east end of the north coast (nearest small town is Hermanville, its almost due north of Souris. We'll be there in mid August.
