Well, given that we had such a rainy summer (to say nothing of the dreadful winter that preceded it), I think we've really earned this perfectly gorgeous autumn, don't you?

Kodi, I love having days like yours, and the rejuvenating factor of them can be just as enjoyable, so good on you !

However, if you find yourself with any time to spare on the next 2 Saturdays in October, try heading up to where we were. Its truly beautiful and inspiring.
The Amish/Mennonite tours run every Saturday in October from 10.00am - 4.00pm and its a very interesting and humbling experience. You drive from site to site (about 12 in all if you want) and they're not very far from each other. Look up the Perth County website. I particularly like learning about traditional methods of farming and dairy keeping, unchanged for decades. I'll see if I can post a link to some photos.

Yes, we've earned it GTG.
Now if only it wasn't a precursor to what we know is soon to follow ... !

I had a wonderful Thanksgiving dinner last night with my family. My dad loves to go all out when it comes to big feasts and we had the following menu:

- Home-cured/home-smoked Sockeye salmon with cream cheese, dill, onions and capers on rye (as a starter while everyone arrived!)
- Turkey with gravy and an Asian-inspired rice/sausage stuffing (with red peppers, ginger and bean sprouts!)
- Smoked ham with pineapple/cherries
- Mashed potatoes
- Mashed turnip
- brussel sprouts
- peas & carrots
- roast tomatoes (from the garden) topped with dijon and prosciutto
- roast sweet potatoes & yams
- homemade French bread
- homemade pumpkin pie (with whipped cream)
- homemade white chocolate chip brownies & apricot squares

Needless to say, I'm still reliving that dinner! :)

Happy Thanksgiving!

Gobble gobble all

My 90 year old mother wanted pork tenderloin so that's what we had - at least we had dressing with it but I would have preferred turkey.

What a gorgeous couple of days we had especially with the leaves turning - the white ash on my front lawn is spectacular.

And now we have to vote. Now HAVE to but should or else we can't complain.

I mean to type 'NOT' have to...

Well, at least the election is happening at an appropriate time of year, what with all those turkeys running for office and spouting gobbledy-gook! :-D

Very true.
