Thanks gtg....me, I'm a turkey person. Although recent events make me think vegetarianism might not be such a bad idea.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone! Weather is beautiful here and I can't wait for some yummy turkey and sweet potato pie. I love going for walks and smelling all the yummy dinners being made.

What's your menu?

This is ours:

- Turkey with traditional bread & giblet stuffing, smoked on the barbeque
- noodle pudding
- garlic potatoes
- spinach souffle
- another veg dish brought by my SIL
- home-made cranberry sauce by her husband
- possibly mushroom gravy, depending on how well my MIL is feeling
- ditto with the pumpkin pie. If she's not feeling well enough to make it, they'll surprise us with something else
- nice chocolates

We're doing most of our shopping at the St. Lawrence Market tomorrow. It will be a zoo but fun, and our DC houseguests love it there.

I'm on vacation as of tonight and I'm flying to visit my family in BC on Monday. I don't actually care if they go ahead and have the big dinner on Sunday, before we get there. There will be leftovers on Monday and as long as there is pumpkin pie, I'll be happy :)

We are hosting 5 of my 6 children and are lucky to have my brother and wife with their new daughter coming to visit from the west of Canada. Also hosting a few of the in-laws.

We will all be going for a hike on the Bruce Trail on Saturday in memory of my late Mum and Dad. I look forward to a lovely weekend.

Happy Thanksgiving!!!

Here in Edmonton it is unseasonably chilly (very frosty at night!!), although Monday should be warmer. The wind has blown many of the golden and brilliant yellow leaves away this past week (although my mountain ash is still perfectly green, well, except for the deep red berries).

Our Thanksgiving menu will include roast turkey with suasage-onion-sage stuffing and a mushroom gravy, cranberry chutney, roast sweet potatoes, a rice pilaf, probably brussel sprouts, peas and corn, a tomato salad (a bumper crop of tomatoes this year :-) ), pumpkin pie, and. . .
. . . a birthday cake for my grandson's 6th birthday - so - a double celebration!!

Hello Northern California from Vancouver Island.

My sister from back east is visiting, my husband is alive nearly a decade after a scary episode, I barely missed getting creamed today by a truck whose driver failed to notice my signal... and my hair is behaving... so I have much to be grateful for.

Clear blue sky today but chilly breeze. Leaves are changing colour and fields are orange with pumpkins.

We won't have a traditional Thanksgiving dinner. We have had some lovely dinners already this week, and afternoon tea is on the agenda for tomorrow.

I'm going to my niece's, so don't know what the menu will be. I'm quite sure it will be turkey, and I'm hoping she'll let me bring home leftovers for a great sandwich.

Oh April, you do have many things to be grateful for indeed. By the way, it seems we have the same weather you are having, blue sky and sunshine but a strong wind and it is very chilly. Thanks traveljunkie, not over the "bug" yet I am sad to say. But I have been warned it last a good week or so. No appointments etc., so that is good. I did cancel the visit with friends who are going to be in SF this Wednesday which was heartbreaking but I knew I wouldn't be up to commuting into SF.

We're having beautiful weather this weekend -- blue skies, warm, sunny, and it all looks lovely with the fall leaves. We just spent a great day down at the St. Lawrence Market with our DC houseguests and we're now all pooped out and relaxing with a glass of wine before other friends come and we all go out for dinner. Nice, nice day!

Just got back from an absolutely wonderful and very full day in the Kitchner/Waterloo area. The weather was incredible. Spent 2 hours buying goodies and vegetables at the Kitchner Farmers market at bargain prices (a case of 10 large mangoes for $2 !), then drove through the countryside and took dozens of photos of the beautiful Fall colours and Harvest scenes at sunset; took part in the Mennonite/Amish Fall tours and visited a goat farm which included a buggy ride around the fields and then bought blue potatoes from the farmer's 7yo daughter for 10c a piece.
We then a visited our friends in Poole, took a pretty walk in Millbank, bought a pumpkin pie from Anna Mae's and finally ended our day with a schnitzel (for her) and smoked hock (for me) dinner with sauerkraut and freshly drawn brews in Heidelberg.

Tomorrow (or rather today) we will have our family Thanksgiving Turkey dinner with all the trimmings and more.
I have many things to be thankful for, especially my many FODORS friends who make life so interesting by sharing their travels, knowledge and adventures.

Hi fellow canucks!

We had a gorgeous Saturday here in BC... not sure if it'll hold for the whole weekend. It's very chilly at night, though! But the garden's hanging in much later than usual this year - leaves just starting to turn on some trees, roses still blooming, window boxes still full of annuals.

Here's what we're having - turkey with sage stuffing, mashed potatoes, brussel sprouts of course, roasted carrots, peas, cauliflower with gruyere crust, and gravy! I'm not making pumpkin pie this year (husband doesn't like it) so instead we are having deep dish apple custard pie.

Mathieu, it sounds like you had the perfect day. ...a beautiful way to spend a day on the Thanksgiving weekend.
Now why didn't I think of that?, since it isn't that far from me.

Instead I enjoyed being lazy and enjoying the weather in my own back yard. I slept late, and then took the dogs for a walk. But they can no longer go as far as I'd like.

Everyone ....don't eat too much today!!! but enjoy.
