DARTMOUTH YES OR NO??
 

WILL BE IN HALIFAX FOR A FEW DAYS IN JULY, DO YOU THINK IT IS WORTH A TRIP OVER TO DARTMOUTH? HOW LONG OF A DRIVE IS IT? WHAT IS A MUST SEE OR DO? THANKS FOR ANY HELP!

It is just over the bridge, it is really a part of Halifax now, but we all still say Dartmouth and Halifax

Take the ferry boat from downtown Halifax to downtown Dartmouth, and then back again. You'll get a cheap harbor tour, nice views of both cities, and probably see all of Dartmouth that you really want to.<BR><BR>BAK

Completely agree with Brian Kilgore. The only part of Dartmouth worth seeing is on the harbour cruise over and right back. You can get to some nice beaches by driving through Dartmouth but nothing really to stop for.

Now, don't discount Dartmouth. It is after all the City of Lakes (23 of them in fact). There is a beautiful park you can enjoy called Shubie Park with an interpretation centre which shows you how the locks in the canal system works. The Canal in the 1800's connected Halifax Harbour with the Bay of Fundy (70 miles worth) There is also Eastern Passage and the fisherman's village which is a nice spot to enjoy lunch and a walk along the water. Outside of Dartmouth is Lawrencetown Beach - not the warmest but usually great wave action and lots of surfers. The Black Cultural Centre on Route 7 is a great place to visit and see highlights of their early ancestors who came to Nova Scotia. The Dartmouth waterfront has Alderney Landing which hosts a farmer's market as well as a Theatre which will have performances throughout the summer. On your drive to Lawrencetown Beach stop and visit the Cole Harbour Heritage Farm Museum. As well there is a tea room just before you come to the beach - stop and enjoy the view and a cup of tea!<BR><BR>

Although most of what is mentioned about is outside of Dartmouth (Lawrencetown is a great beach!!), I have to concur with the recommendation on the Black Cultural Centre. Is is very well done and very interesting but still, a good distance from the bridge that connects you to the downtown part of Halifax.
