ahotpoet, I see you are in Florida. Wonder where? We are in the Ft Lauderdale area.

Toucan2 Jul 20th, 2014 02:42 PM

I'd like to think I played a small part in this trend of Sydney sider GTGs at the MCA :-D

cathies Jul 20th, 2014 02:56 PM

You certainly did toucan2! Such a trend setter!

rncheryl Jul 20th, 2014 04:23 PM

Toucan2, where are you. Will you be there in Sydney?

Toucan2 Jul 20th, 2014 05:38 PM

rncheryl, sadly, no. But I was there last New Year's Eve and had a wonderful lunch at the MCA and a mini-GTG. Great view, good food, and better company.

ahotpoet Jul 21st, 2014 02:47 PM

Cheryl, You have mail! I am in Clearwater.

I am putting this GTG on my calendar on my phone. Let's hope all falls into place!I should go to the lounge and ask everyone to say a prayer for me to get to Australia. LOL

ahotpoet Jul 23rd, 2014 04:57 AM

I did it! I booked my cruise. See you all on the 21st. Can't wait.

rncheryl Jul 23rd, 2014 06:17 AM

Ahotpoet, good for you. Looking forward to it!

cathies Jul 23rd, 2014 05:15 PM

Well done! See you in October!

ahotpoet Jul 23rd, 2014 06:40 PM

Thanks ladies.

ahotpoet Jul 28th, 2014 03:12 PM

I was thinking, should we post this in the lounge as well? Maybe Clifton will come. Where does he live?

Bokhara2 Jul 28th, 2014 04:44 PM

He lives in Melbourne.

sartoric Jul 28th, 2014 09:21 PM

Okay, so lunch at the MCA on Tuesday.
What would you envisage that entails ?
Ending at say 4.00 pm or thereabouts ? Or do these GTGs last a bit longer ?

Tiger air has a $24 special offer each way on Tuesday/Wednesdays in October... I might just be able to make it, 1.5 hr from the Gold Coast, arrive at 11.30, fly home at 18.30.

rncheryl, I've read some of your reports - you sound like a fun person, convince me this is a good idea !

Bokhara2 Jul 29th, 2014 12:13 AM

It's a great idea, Sartoric!

I think people will stay as long as they can ... but 4pm would probably be stumps.

And it's footsteps to Circular Quay for a train for you coming & going from the airport.

Let's see if we can get Stormbird down too!

sartoric Jul 29th, 2014 12:26 AM

Okay Stormbird, how about it ? He he....

Will you be there Bokhara2 ?

Bokhara2 Jul 29th, 2014 01:14 AM

Wouldn't miss it for quids, Sartoric.

ahotpoet Jul 29th, 2014 11:16 AM

Thanks Bokhara. I'll be in Melbourne for 1 day on Oct 24th. Let's have a GTG there as well.

I don't have to be anywhere after. Does somebody want to go for a walkabout after? BTW Can anybody suggest a good clean central safe budget (approx $100 night)place to stay? I arrive in Sydney on October 10.

cathies Jul 29th, 2014 12:38 PM

ahotpoet, Try this instead of a budget hotel. It's a really great youth hostel in a fantastic location. Ensuite rooms are available.

I'll let you know about a walk a bit closer to the date.

stormbird Jul 30th, 2014 04:12 PM

Mmmmm very tempting - everyone has cheap fares that day and I will have a couple of TOIL days due as I will be working the full weekend before that.

Will get back to you soon.

rncheryl Jul 30th, 2014 04:29 PM

Sartoric: anyone who can use "envisage" and "entails" in the same sentence is my kind of guy (Gal?).

Us Americans will be "gobsmacked" with all you Aussies.
