Thanks JohnFitz,
Great reference links. :)

Great list, I'm amused by the one called "Dive Hotel" you'd think that was asking for trouble!

JohnFitz Mar 2nd, 2008 02:20 AM

Some nice pictures in the magazine ,if you can get it , plus their prefences for rooms that are quiet etc .

lavici Mar 2nd, 2008 06:32 PM

hi john fitz i'm staying at the chelsea!:) i wish i could get a look at the reviews for the quietest room! jjjjjjjj

Peteralan Mar 2nd, 2008 07:05 PM

Well lavici, the article says the street itself is quiet and says the best rooms are the deluxe suite at the back or room 9 and room 3 in the front balcony rooms. You will be fine!

JohnFitz Mar 4th, 2008 02:28 AM

lavici sorry I missed your reply but I see Peteralan had the magazine to hand to answer .Hope it all works out fine for you . John

JohnFitz:
I was reading your list of Sydney Boutique Hotels.
The Chelsea Guest House looked nice and the price seems great!
I have never been to Sydney, so I don't know the neighborhoods well enough to decide if it an area w/in walking area to major tourist sights.
Any pros/cons you can recommend will be helpful.
Thanks for your guide - looks like you put a lot of time & effort into this.

Susan7 Apr 25th, 2008 03:51 PM

There's a long thread with Lavici about the Chelsea and that neighbourhood that you might find helpful. The Chelsea is not in a tourist area but it is close to public transport.

nanabee Apr 25th, 2008 04:10 PM

Thanks Susan7
I looked up Lavici/Chelsea and found no information. But then I did find an Lavici Australian Trip Report (Nov-Dec.2007) That I'm printing and plan to read to get more ideas.

Here's the exact thread:

Sorry, I'm not sure that I've done that properly. The thread is called "First time in Oz". Maybe if you click on the screen name "Lavici" and then look down the list for that one.

Thanks Susan:
I did find the post ("1st time in Oz....") However, I posted the response on her post by mistake. So you may find two responses.

nanbee , sorry I missed your post but my server has been down for the last 2 days.

I am not a Sydneysider but when I visit I stay with friends in Potts Point ,which is adjacent to Kings Cross , at Simpsons of Potts Point Hotel .It maybe a little more than you want to pay and so here are two more names of small hotels in the best and most vibrant part of PP .

Devere Hotel ,
44- 46 Macleay St PP , around A$128 per night .This the main street running from Kings Cross through PP and down to the harbour

Challis Lodge ,
21 Challis Ave , PP .Rooms on wotif around A$70- 80 .just off Macleay with great cafes underneath owned by the hotel owners .My friends who own Simpsons often refer people there as it is in the same street .

Have a look at http://www.bd.com.au/sydney/sydney-p...int-hotels.htm

It is a lovely area with tree lined shady streets , cafes ,lovely retailers in fashion etc , has a good little supermarket , train and a lovely walk into the city via Wolloomolloo .

Hi John:
It was great to hear from you. Thanks so much. Your suggestions will be very helpful
When I tried the last web site you mentioned, my computer couldn't access it. Our computer is also very sloooow. So we will go back to our public library tomorrow.
Arent' computers fun - but can't live without them. LOL!

JohnFitz Apr 27th, 2008 01:27 AM

Just try the simple bd.com.au first .I got it by using my search engine and putting in 'Potts Point Hotels Sydney '.See how you go or maybe just search the specific hotels .

I also like the area off to one side of Macleay Street down Greenknowe Avenue which takes you to Elizabeth Bay .One of the oldest spots in Sydney with the gloriously restored Elizabeth Bay House owned by the National Trust . There is a lovely park in front of it with Harbour vistas and nearby lovely Rushcutters Bay .

We recently (early May) stayed at Ravesis in Bondi Beach for two nights. We expected a cute Boutique style hotel.

Unfortunately, they were snarky about our having booked the room on wotif.com. The band in the bar roared until after midnight. When I complained they said it was impossible to switch us because we booked on Wotif.

The staff was not trained. The room was shabby and inadequately provided with basics such as more than one hanger in the closet. It was not particularly clean either.

The location was great on Bondi, but I would never recommend it as a "Boutique Hotel" which generally denotes a certain style and class.

That is excellent feedback and thanks. I only repeated what the magazine wrote.Sounds ghastly .
