Don't worry about traveling solo. I'm female, in my late 40s, and have been traveling solo since I was 17. You'll have a great time. I ALWAYS meet people along the way. Happy Travels!

Ya it will probably take me awhile to look around to find the best prices for flights.

Read some of your postings. Thanks for the info.
Loved the hotel site you recommended.
Wow! If you book a room at the Marriott Bangkok with the complimentary upgrade to Junior Suite, do you get to use all the complimentary 'facilites' of the executive level (cocktails etc.)?
I see that it is one of your favourite hotels.
Have you posted a report on what to do in Bangkopk?

i posted a report on my trip last year that was 80 printed pages, so i am told...it was so boring and so detailed i even told what kind of thread was used to hem towels...just kidding, but its the only way to keep ahead of fodorites and their questions...give me your e mail and i will send it to you....i think it chocked up the fodor system, and they deleated it...my e mail is [email protected] "thailand" in the subject line or i will delete you...

i also have a restaurant list...

our favorite guide book is ron krannich's, the treasurers and pleasurers of thailand and myanmar, which is available on amazon...its mostly a shopping and eating book but has other tidbits as well....recently revised... we never go without it...

check out http://www.backpackingforlife.com/asia/

it is such a great site.

There are forums and a lot of info about hotels/guesthouses/hostels, places to eat, shop, and things to do.

Also, try Orbitz for cheap airfare. I tried all of the others that have been suggested on your post, but i found orbitz to be the cheapest with tax included in the price. I was able to get roundtrip airfare from LAX to BKK for $714 for the Summer 2005... search around...

I hope this helps.

For forum discussion and travel information, I find that www.virtualtourist.com and www.tripadvisor.com quite useful.

I love Thailand very much too and have been to the following cities/islands in recent years -
Bangkok, Chiangmai, Koh Samet, Koh Samui, Phuket, Khaolak, Huahin and Krabi. I'm not fond of water sports, but enjoy being lazy and just enjoy the scenery and pace of life. My experience in Koh Samet and Huahin is so so, but I do love Khaolak (sadly....) and Krabi very much. Bangkok is an exciting place and Chiangmai is also fun. In general, I feel extremely safe in Thailand and find no trouble but only friendly faces.
Bon voyage!
