Dogster-are you familiar with the expression that goes something like regression to the mean? One of the strengths of this forum is that we have different opinions, but manage to express them mostly without rancor.
There's no reason to modify your comments is any way. The "buttered toast" reference that has drawn so much comment is fairly mild. It's certainly not offensive. I should know. I'm the dean of offensive comments. I try to avoid them here. Keep it coming. |
dogster, I chuckled at your buttered toast comment. Don't confuse liking luxury with preferring insular travel. None of the regulars on the board take tours, but are all independent travelers.
By the way, I was suprised to hear that you felt flamed by others' comments to you, which I thought were as mild as your buttered toast comment. My screen wasn't even warm. |
Yikes! This is getting too funny. Now you all play nice as I just want to get to know more about Bangkok and where to stay. I like staying in unusual places as I have to stay at "work" places when I usually travel that have absolutely no charm whatsoever unless you calll getting hassled nightly when having a drink by wealthy drunken locals and ex pats in India ;-)
I want to spend less than a chain hotel i.e. under 100 USD as I can use the money for other things and stay longer. Ideally I want to leave Mid Dec and come back to Ireland Mid Jan as I have to work. We are open minded travellers but I prefer to stay in a hotel as opposed to Hostel and a nice funkly place I will pay a little more for. Shanghai Inn sounds too far out the loop but will keep in mind. I will look at other places you all reccomend on other posts. All I want is a fun nice/decent place NOT next to a ping pong show! I keep thinking about Priscilla Queen of the Desert since it was mentioned above! Ha! |
Siobhan, There are some very interesting small places to stay in Bangkok, but they all seem to be in locations that make getting around a bit difficult. Check out the Old Bangkok Inn, a place that a number of people have raved about. I believe it's in your price range. If you do a search on this board you'll find some interesting reviews.

SiobhanP. If I'm in Bangkok for only a week or so, I stay at the Baiyoke Suite hotel. They are good, fairly cheap, have an excellent free buffet breakfast as well as cheap room service meals and are pretty central. A few stops on a 73 or 204 bus gets you to MBK/Siam Square.
I usually try for about the fortieth floor for the views over the city. |
Dogster...I'm just letting all of this go into one ear and out of the other. Happy Travels!

I think that's by far the best attitude Guenmai.
I'll butter your toast for you, anytime. |
hey, what happened to my post? it seems it was 86d.
maybe i used a few mildly offensive terms, so punish me, but why bother the other poster? |
Hi Ken,
Did the 86 HT too??? And I wanted to learn Hawaiian. polly |
hi polly, how are you?
i don't think you should be hanging around ht and i. we only know the naughty hawaiian words, unbecoming of a southern belle. :-) but then again, we might dig up a couple of nice words. lol |
