Safety in Bangkok?
I know ther are many threads on this issue but my wife is becoming paranoid. At her nail salon she was told not to go into Bangkok by ourselves but you always need a guide. I told her that statment was crzy but she wants the opinion of others. So pleae lend me a hand and calm her fears. Thnaks for the help.

Bangkok is very safe- we are here now and have been since Jan16th and will leave on the 29th. This is our third trip = others on this forum have been to Bangkok many more times than us. Its very safe - day or night there are always plenty of people walking about and the Thais are about the friendliest people on the planet.
You don't need a guide but if you don't want to navigate the trains and boats to see all the sights then enlist the aid of a driver. They are very reasonable and will take you to all the sights and an added benefit is that you sit in an air conditioned car from point to point with cold bottled water aboard and you don't expend your energy - which in the Bangkok heat can be a big deal. Search this forum for the drivers. Try our driver named Ratt. |
Safety is not an issue in Bangkok. Not at all. You will feel very safe. We've been there seven times and each one was a joy. You might want a guide or driver for convenience, but totally unnecessary for security.

I've been to Bangkok 19 times, some of those trips were alone, as a solo female traveller. I've never felt unsafe in Bangkok. Never. And I am sometimes out walking in the wee hours!

Thanks very much for the assurances for my wife. We do hope to use Tong for 2 days just for the info she can give and will then tour on our own as I prefer.

Is your wife's nail person Vietnamese? For some reason, many VN think thailand is very dangerous. Could have to do with their history of conflicts.
