RHK-Bon Voyage-Scouting

Bob and Karen-have a great trip beginning on Friday. Hopefully, Bob will get online and provide contemporaneous (Bob, that means at the same time) reports of their travels. I'm sure all the hotel managers and restaurant employees have been put on high alert.

It is so kind of you both to volunteer to precede Beth and me into Asia making sure it is safe for Mr. and Mrs. Panda. When we meet up with you in BKK on 11/24/06, I suspect all of the tourist industry will welcome the relief. I'm really looking forward to helping you interface with the Marriott pool staff when I appear in my Speedo. Do they sell thongs in Thailand?

robmac Oct 26th, 2006 05:00 AM

I hope that Bob & Karen have a great trip--I'm sure that they will.

I'm looking forward to a comprehensive trip report.

Andy--the thought of you in a thong is putting me off my meal at the NEXT GTG.

Craig Oct 26th, 2006 05:39 AM

And I appreciate the 4 of you paving the way for my February trip. Jeane and I plan to avoid any of your regular haunts - ROS, Marriott, etc. as I am sure their staffs will not yet have recovered by then.

Have a wonderful time Bob, Karen, Andy and Beth!

kuranosuke Oct 26th, 2006 06:09 AM

bon voyage bob and karen. take good notes in india, as i'm still planning on going there in the next couple of years.

will be catching up with you guys and the pandas and all the cool guys at the gtg in dec.

rhkkmk Oct 26th, 2006 09:58 AM

thanks very much for the good wishes....we are really looking forward to this trip and to being able to report back on new activities and restaurants, as well as our first taste of india...

especially looking forward to the bkk GTG's and mini gtg's we have set up during this trip...

we will alert the thai army to the arrival of the great panda!!! perhaps this will be more a happening than the recent coup....

Bob & Karen

Nameste. Have a wonderful time. I'm leaving Monday for Vietnam, Siem Reap and Bangkok. Looking forward to it after getting all those good vibes from Fodorites.

Gpanda Oct 26th, 2006 10:34 AM

My sole goal for this trip is to get Bob banned from the Marriott. How sweet would that be?

scfphoto Oct 26th, 2006 10:56 AM

Bob, have a great trip thanks for all the help. Will be wandering BKK 11/22-28. It is our first trip hope we learn to navigate and enjoy BKK as much as all of you!

thursdaysd Oct 26th, 2006 11:08 AM

Have a great trip. Am looking forward to your take on India.

evangelina Oct 26th, 2006 11:30 AM

My husband and I will be heading to Thailand Dec 9-13th. I'm fairly new to this board, but have got wonderful information from all of you. Anybody else there at this time?

TracyB Oct 26th, 2006 11:56 AM

Hope u have a great trip..U will love India, can't wait to read all of your stories...

Guenmai Oct 26th, 2006 12:03 PM

Bob and Karen have a great time.Too bad I can't be in Bangkok when you're there. I'll miss you by a few weeks, I think.
Bob...I just got your e-mail at my personal e-mail address and I'm still laughing hysterically. You are truly ill. It's good you have Karen to look after you. Have fun in India...Maybe I'll put it back on my list. It seems to go on and off of my list depending on what National Geographic special comes on the tube. Happy Travels!

Gpanda Oct 26th, 2006 12:04 PM

Evangelina-the best way to determine who is going to be in BKK then is to start a separate post. Don't worry about being duplicative, many do it often. Bob for instance is the master of repetitive repeating rapidly.

laurieco Oct 26th, 2006 01:21 PM

Have a great time in India and Thailand. Looking forward to hearing all about it. Try not to embarrass Karen too much.

marya_ Oct 26th, 2006 02:28 PM

Bon voyage to Bob and Karen! It is so cold and gloomy here in Boston, with a big storm forecast for the weekend -- such a perfect time to get away. I look forward to reading about your wonderful adventures. Enjoy!

Kathie Oct 26th, 2006 02:36 PM

Have a great time! We look forward to seeing you in Bangkok!

lovesadventure Oct 26th, 2006 03:08 PM

Happy Travels!

Bob, before you leave (and if you have a chance) would you email me your BKK restaurant list? sf_princess at hotmail dot com.

If not, we'll look forward to the updated list upon your return!

CFW Oct 26th, 2006 04:05 PM

Bob & Karen, Have a great trip, and keep us posted. We will all really look forward to your report on India and new adventures in BKK! Are you going anywhere else in Thailand this trip or just BKK?

Mirasia Oct 26th, 2006 04:22 PM

Have a great flight B & K! see you in a few weeks!!!! I will be the one that is NOT wearing the speedo :)

Evangelina, we will be there same time as you, where are you staying??? We are at the Marriott. We took Bobs advice and stayed there on our honeymoon and loved it!

Guenmai Oct 26th, 2006 07:04 PM

Hawaiiantraveler...we've got to find a way to get the Hawaiian group and the Boston group together for one big GTG...L.A. is in the middle...same amount of flying time from the east to here and from the west to hear. I'm sure the two groups would have a blast together. Happy Travels!

rhkkmk Oct 26th, 2006 07:22 PM

carole....we are having four days each in pattaya (new sheraton resort) and hua hin (hyatt)

sf--on the way

Also - if there are any particular places you have encountered from shopping in Rajahstan(ethnic jewelries, carpets, house deco stuff)... do let me know too... Looking forward to a week of shopping spree in Xmas! :-)

Bonita Oct 27th, 2006 06:56 AM

hello and bon voyage Bob! Greetings from Bangkok! I arrived yesterday and all looks good. I am off to Delhi on Saturday or Sunday, hard to tear myself away from BKK so soon but had a late deaparture and u know why! However, will be back some time to BKK in November and again in December, between my India trips/tours. Will keep my base in Asia this year between Delhi and Bangkok.

Safe flight and all the best! Wishing you and Karen a wonderful trip, and looking forwad to connecting in either Bangkok or India. Sawadeeka and Namaste!

simpsonc510 Oct 27th, 2006 09:38 AM

Bob and Karen
Have a great trip. I realize you are probably on your way now...

Bradinbangkok has just arrived in BKK about an hour ago, with three other people from Illinois. There are at least seven other Illinoisans who will be coming to BKK in the next week or two. I know Brad is looking forward to the BKK GTG's. Wish I could be there as well.

Looking forward to your report.

And to guenmai, count me in on that LA GTG!!

Carol (no e)

kuranosuke Oct 27th, 2006 10:15 AM

evangelina/travelduo, i will also still be there during that period. perhaps we can organize another bangkok gtg. three in two months, wow!

guen, looking forward to the la gtg.

rhkkmk Oct 27th, 2006 11:04 AM

so guen what is the date, and what are we having to eat and what place have you reserved for us....you have had at least 12 hours to figure that all out...

Gpanda Oct 27th, 2006 03:57 PM

Does anybody doubt that Bob will amaze them in India? How does one say Mai Pen Rai in Hindu? The Thais have grown accustomed to him. I see a major international incident on the horizon.

Bonita Oct 28th, 2006 07:33 AM

Koi baat nahi hai" is Hindi for "no problem", which is a very very common expression in India, somewaht akin to the Thai mai pen rai.

Of course everything in India is initially or seemlingly a problem, and then miraculosuly with time, faith, perserverence and humor the problems subside.

Bob will surely have his fun in India!
I am actually hoping to catch up with him and karen during their extravaganza, but my India schedule for November is very busy with my work, so I am not so sure our paths will cross. hopefully! Would love to see him in action and probably visa versa.

Gpanda Oct 28th, 2006 08:27 AM

Don't do it Bonita. As Elmer Fudd said often, "Be veddy, veddy caafull". Try to dream up some way you can get together with Karen and ditch Bob.

evangelina Oct 28th, 2006 09:15 AM

Travelduo/Kuranosuke I'm staying in Chinatown, but it might be fun to meet. We should probably start a new post.

Gpanda Oct 31st, 2006 04:31 AM

Einstein has landed. Apparently, the Thai immigration services have failed again.
