We've done this sort of thing before, especially with fruits and the tops of soda cans. Often times, we take the purel wipes along for this purpose (come in little foil packets). I try to be discreet about it, though. I don't want people to think I'm some sort of nutjob about sanitation --- which I am in certain countries. :-)

We took those antibacterial wipes to Egypt with us last year, and they were invaluable! Our local grocery store carried them- and we took enough for the whole 2 week trip. Didn't take up a lot of room and were very handy in places where washing up was difficult. (Overnight train from Cairo to Aswan)

I bought those Purell wipes also. Glad I did after reading your post, Ericka. I get those Wet Ones to use also and like those.

Alcohol swabs are better for chopsticks, they dry instantly. Don't worry about offending anyone in many restaurents...they are too busy throwing chicken bones on the table or floor and hawking loogies.
