Purell and Wash n Dri's?

Can you buy Purell and Wash n Dri's (moist towellettes) in China or should we bring a supply?

Ericka Feb 3rd, 2007 04:34 AM

Better bring it along...

We were in China a few years ago and were very impressed by the quality and quantity of goods in the supermarkets. I don't know about Purell and towlettes, but it looked to us that you could get most anything. ((*))

Just a note, I much preffered the towelette kind of anti-bacterial wipes. You can use the wipes on your face like a washcloth if you're sweaty...and I had a bottle of purell gel stuff come open in my purse and it was a real mess.

LostinChina Feb 3rd, 2007 07:54 AM

Good to know. Better bring the whole trip's worth.

cruisinred, I had that experience also about gel coming out. Very messy. With all the travelling, seems bound to happen. sometimes I think it's nice to have a towel to wipe your hands on if you want to get stuff off, vs the Purell where you are just rubbing it til it dissolves.

It would help to repost here when you come back on your experience with this situation. ((*))

I'll try to remember

Put Purell in its own separate plastic snack bag so if it leaks it doesn't affect other things.

LostinChina Feb 5th, 2007 10:22 AM

I was planning to do that for sure. Thanks!

I am strongly against advertising, and have reported many to the editors. But in this case, where it is in response to someone's need, and not gratuitously started by the advert, my feeling is that it is OK. ((*))

Purell and hand wipes are becoming more widely available in the big cities, but whether you will have time to shop around is the question. Watson's drugstores usually have it.

I usually take a mid-sized bottle (in a Baggie, kept in my suitcase) to refill tiny bottles you can take during the day. One handy product I've seen at Target stores is a very small bottle of sanitizer that is in a case that can be secured to a purse or fanny pack strap and handy at all times.

I also throw in a box of sanitizer wipes because sometimes I want to really wipe grime off my hands or use after a rest room without soap, etc.

THanks for your replies, very helpful. I see Purell now makes wipes in addition to the waterless bottles.

Besides common uses, when in China we found the damp wipes a basic survival need. They were a better plan than tissue to use for toilet paper (rarely supplied in public restrooms). Also a life saver at more than one occasion to use to cover our noses from terrible odor. As a basic need for travel for me today, I don't take any chances of being without.

With the current airline restrictions, I would assume I would not be allowed to carry Purell on board, would have to pack it. What about Wash n Dri's? Am I allowed to put those on a carryon and bring it onboard? Would be handy for the long trip over.

Thanks.

cruisinred Mar 27th, 2007 10:20 AM

Wash n Dris are no problem.
Read up on the current carry-on regulations. You are allowed 2 ounce or smaller liquid containers (shampoo, purell, lotion, etc) contained in a 1 quart ziploc bag, which must be presented for insepection at the security checkpoint.

LostinChina Mar 27th, 2007 11:11 AM

Thanks for the info. Now that you mention it, I recall seeing the ziploc bags allowance. I will have to check into that. Thanks cruisinred!

Shanghainese Mar 27th, 2007 02:13 PM

The regulations have been laxed to 3-ounce containers of liquid stuff.

kat_in_the_hat Mar 27th, 2007 02:36 PM

Check the sample size/travel bottles of your local Target. I've seen tiny bottles of Purell in carbines to clip to your backpack that would help with your liquid limits in your carry-ons.

LostinChina May 22nd, 2007 08:00 PM

What do you think of the idea of using Purell to "clean" off chopsticks before using them or to "wash off " fruits and then rinse well with bottle water?
