Overnight at Changi
I have a flight that arrives into Singapore at 1 AM and my connecting flight is at 7:30 AM. This means I have almost 6.5 hours at Changi, overnight. Kind of sucks, but this is the best rate I could get.
I was wondering if y'all can tell what my options are at Changi to spend the night - a lounge where I can stretch my legs and maybe a take a shower (and catch 2-3 hours of sleep) might be ideal. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance! |
Rahulum, you posted another thread today, just a few minutes after you posted this one, which says you have a flight into Singapore which arrives at 8:30 am and departs at 6 pm, see http://www.fodors.com/community/asia...e-187764-2.cfm. The post above gives completely different times for you layover. Before any of us spend time giving advice, can you clarify as to which is correct?

Cicerone: One is on my way to India and the other is on my way out of India.
I've benefited A LOT from this forum and wouldn't dream of trolling and wasting peoples time here. |
You might want to give the transit hotel a try. We stayed there - its basic but clean and fairly inexpensive:
http://www.athmg.com/ You may have to actually call them to make a reservation. |
The only hotel is the Crowne Plaza in terminal 3. They will likely mot give you a short rate as a pre-reservation and if they are full you are out of luck. A standard room id $250/night as of this past March.
|
There is a transit hotel, (not the Crown Plaza) which rents rooms in 4 or 6 hour blocks. I can't make Craig's link work, but I remember finding it on the Changi Airport website. I was able to email them for a reservation (but it's been a few years). Reserve as far in advance as possible, since it seems they are always full.

There are transit hotels in all three terminals. The ones in terminals two and three are Ambassador and terminal one is the Rainforest Lounge. Some of these can be booked in advance, but that may not be necessary. You can check Ambassador's web site here:

Michael, every time I;ve stayed at the transit hotels they have been totally full. I watched dozens of people get turned away. So I'd pre-book.
|
I agree with Kathie. I wanted to save $300 but could not do so because I needed it going and on the return.
|
Done. Ambassador booked! Thank you so much for your suggestions! They rent hotels in 6 hour increments and the cost for six hours (private bath etc) is SGD$68.24
|
Great! I'm glad you booked it.

Having only done through Singapore 3 times I was unaware of these hotels in Terminal 1 & 2. Would you say they are the rooms are equivalent in condition and comfort to say a marriott Courtyard but small like a Fairfield Inn?
|
No. Stan, the rooms are very basic (as well as small). Clean, but very basic. I've stayed in them a number of times, each time when I was arriving in Singapore around midnight and flying out around 7 or 8. These basic rooms are perfect if you need a shower and a few hours of sleep after a long trans-Pacific flight before boarding an onward flight.
Any time I have longer, such as arriving at midnight and not flying out until afternoon, I get a hotel in the city. |
Katie; We are returning ti Java next year and if the flight from HK is the same we will arrive at 11:$0 PM local time in terminal 3. Our flight out of Singaore will be 10-11. are the beds and pillows comfortable enough to get 6-7 good hours of sleep. Clean and basic is good especially at about $50USD/night.
|
I consider the beds "ok," not great but not hard. My biggest complaint is that the towels are skimpy and thin.
|
We stayed at the Ambassador in 2008 - while it is clean and quiet, it has the bare minimum in conveniences, including no fluffy towels...
|
I was under the impression that the Crowne Plaza is not a transit hotel but rather you go through immigration & collect your bags before going there. Is that correct??
Thanks |
