I felt the Pen is great value, especially with their business package which includes being picked up in their S Class Mercedes from that dump of an airport at Bangkok.

Rooms were okay, but the service is great and the look and feel of the place upon arrival is like smelling salts for that cross-Pacific flight.

Mandarin looked tempting as well, but on a subsequent visit I tried Conrad over on Wireless road in the diplomatic area and was very impressed. They had hi-tech rooms with see-through shower windows and nice contemporary/hip thai furnishings.
