Sounds like you guys had a great trip to the big apple. I am trying to picture a Boston panda at the wheel...or one leaning across the hood reading (?)...the meter maid couldn't believe it either...lol.

Loved the pictures, Bob.

We are looking forward to our upcoming trip to the US Open, NYC. I am noting down your restaurant reccomendations.

Too bad you couldn't make it the the Jackson Diner...who would think that's an Indian restaurant..with the name like that. My favorite...great food. Next time...

Gpanda Jul 21st, 2009 04:00 PM

Magical-when you're at the US Open, you'll be very close to all the great restaurants in Queens as I'm sure you're aware. Make sure you try Ayada.

Clark55 Jul 21st, 2009 10:59 PM

Can I ask what Beth's going to do with a Sari

Gpanda Jul 22nd, 2009 01:34 AM

Clark55-we'll see. WE do eat at an Indian restaurant quite often.

kmkrnn Jul 22nd, 2009 05:20 AM

I have to correct the Panda. Beth did not buy a sari, but rather what is called a "3 piece suit". The long tunic top, pants and a scarf. It is very comfy to lounge in or can be worn out as a pant outfit without the scarf. Men...what do they know!!!!!

easytraveler Jul 22nd, 2009 10:51 AM

HI, kmkrnn!

Believe you are talking about the "salwar kameez":

http://www.pardesifashions.com/SalwarKameez/Types.aspx

That's what I wear when in India (which I haven't visited in eons!). They are soooo comfortable!

gpanda: Great TR! One of the best! ((Y)) It'll take even NYC awhile to recover from the pandas and the banker bears visit!

mango pudding rice - yummm!

lcuy Jul 22nd, 2009 11:36 AM

They are also called Punjabi suits

ekscrunchy Jul 22nd, 2009 11:38 AM

Panda I just get back home and what do I see--this whole long report. I cannot believe you were reading a book while you were parked in a No Standing zone! You are lucky you did not get towed to the notorious "car pound" on the Hudson!

And of all the dishes you could comment on at Hunan House, you highlighted the bokchoy?
What about the beef with the special white chilis--the chilis that NYwoman comandeered for us to see at the table?

I see that I will need more time with you to set you straight about many things. And not only that, you have also given away my secret past in the espionage field.

Gpanda Jul 22nd, 2009 12:56 PM

Ekscrunchy-The bok choy was the most delicious of the dishes. Might I suggest that the consensus of the table to reorder it repeatedly indicates that it was the most popular. The panda does not stand alone on this issue.

Also, think of all the information tidbits that were not included in this report. I learned a whole lot about secret agent Ekscrunchy last weekend. Never to be revealed. Oh, maybe for the right price. I can't be bought, but I can be rented.

Karen-if you think I care even one little bit about the proper name for Beth's new clothes, you haven't been paying attention during our trips.

dogster Jul 22nd, 2009 01:08 PM

Well, I'm glad I was there too, if only as a brief diversion. I hope you said nice things.

ekscrunchy Jul 22nd, 2009 01:47 PM

Dogster: Several people at the table had things to say that were more than merely "nice" about you.

Panda: It is bad enough that the top of my head is now enshrined on-line, with that ridiculous purse covering my face! And now you are telling me that the secrets of my past life may be revealed by all and sundry for a pittance? If you do not tread carefully, I may have to remand my trusted agent Hanuman over to your 3-decker to set you straight.

Gpanda Jul 22nd, 2009 03:49 PM

3-deckers are in Somerville. Only palatial mansions in Cambridge. Hanuman is welcome any time. It's your present life that should really worry you.

ekscrunchy Jul 22nd, 2009 04:35 PM

Panda, you are once again treading on some mighty thin ice. And I do not think your fur will look so good when it gets all damp and matted. And my present life DOES worry me, as you well know. I am in the midst of some very complicated and top-secret negotiations regarding my escape from Burma.

cruisinred Jul 22nd, 2009 04:54 PM

Sounds as if a great time was had by all.
Sorry I missed out on the festivities....I work just a few blocks away from Shanghai Tea Garden.

Gpanda Jul 23rd, 2009 02:05 AM

Cruisinred-sorry we did not get the chance to meet up with you. Perhaps, next time.

EKS-if I remember correctly, your escape from Burma involve s very slow boat, the Pandaw. Nice plan. Not to mention the endless thread on airfare to China from Burma.

ekscrunchy Jul 24th, 2009 01:22 PM

Panda, as usual you got it wrong. The Pandaw will be the vehicle for my in-country assignment. It is NOT my slow boat to China.

Which reminds me: This was a favorite travel book of mine:

Now, I must skeedaddle.

lcuy Jul 24th, 2009 01:53 PM

EKS-You're riding the Panda in Burma?

rhkkmk Jul 24th, 2009 07:16 PM

don't forget the prune juice either!!!

bookchick Jul 25th, 2009 05:24 AM

This report was as almost as confusing as Bob & Andy are "live", but it sounds like the general consensus is "good trip, good friends, good food". Enjoyed the photos, and glad to see laurieco, one of the most delightful Fodorites of all time. Laurieco, hope to see you & Eric again in BOS in October, because if you don't come, Carol & I have to suffer through another live episode of the "Bob & Andy Show" without you! (Although with luck, we'll have Beth & Karen to commiserate!)

Hope you are all well!
