No More Bangkok Air To Cambodia

I just read that in about a month Bangkok Air will stop flying to Cambodia. Cambodia's national airline will start servicing Cambodian destinations from Bangkok.

Hanuman Sep 25th, 2009 04:53 AM

Brad,

I beleive it only applies to the domestic route in Cambodia that Bangkok Airways fly or their Siem Reap - Phnom Phenh. The international routes will still be operated by Bangkok Airways as usual.

Hanuman Sep 25th, 2009 04:56 AM

International like BKK - Siem Reap and visa versa.

rhkkmk Sep 25th, 2009 05:16 AM

i just put december dates into the computer for flights and 5 came up in each direction...

i've asked hanuman to call them and see what is happening...

i'm sure he will report back here....

Hanuman Sep 25th, 2009 05:38 AM

Bob,

They will stop ONLY the domestic flights within Cambodia and Bangkok Airways will still fly all their international routes as normal.

Scotters Sep 25th, 2009 06:15 AM

Bangkok Air’s agreement with Cambodia to be the only airline to fly from Bangkok to Siem Reap runs out this year. Unless it is renewed we could see discount airlines such as Air Asia also flying that route at more reasonable prices.

Hanuman Sep 25th, 2009 06:26 AM

Scotters,

Please check your facts as you're confusing people. Try googling "Bangkok Airways stop flying Cambodia" and you'll understand.

Hanuman Sep 25th, 2009 06:28 AM

Example:

http://www.phnompenhpost.com/index.p...c-flights.html

Again this DOES NOT AFFECT THE BANGKOK - SIEM REAP FLIGHTS.

I'm easily confused. Please do not add to my easy confusion.

Next year I'm planning on an SE Asia trip - will I be able to fly Bangkok -SR or not?

TIA.

Kathie Sep 25th, 2009 10:17 AM

yes.

BKK Air is discontinuing their BKK-SGN route next month.

Scotters Sep 25th, 2009 03:08 PM

Hanuman: I did not say that Bangkok Air was going to discontinue their flights between Bangkok and Siem Reap. I stated that their agreement with the Cambodia government to have sole rights to this route runs out this year. If it is not renewed then other airlines may be able to fly from BK to SR. I made no mentioned of internal flights between SR and PP which their new airline is now handling.

easytraveler Sep 25th, 2009 04:37 PM

Think I'll walk...

MichaelBKK Sep 25th, 2009 05:46 PM

Background: Bangkok Airways was flying the Siem Reap - Phnom Penh route in place of Siem Reap Airways, a Bangkok Airways affiliate that ran into trouble last year. The agreement which allowed Bangkok Airways to do this expires and is not being renewed. Cambodia's new national carrier, a JV with Vietnam Airways, will fly the route instead.

Bangkok Airways recently dropped four destinations, including HCMC. It will definitely be interesting to see what happens if/when they lose exclusive rights to the BKK - SR route. I'm sure lots would like to see Air Asia fly this.

Hanuman Sep 25th, 2009 06:09 PM

Scotters,

That is interesting! Would you mind sharing the source of your news regarding the Bangkok Airways loosing their exclusive rights to Siem Reap from BKK?

rhkkmk Sep 25th, 2009 06:11 PM

thanks pook

Scotters Sep 25th, 2009 07:26 PM

Hanuman: It has been mentioned on several forums over the last yeay and also on Tales of Asia. I presume with all your connections you can find this out for yourself. We will just have to wait and see.

Hanuman Sep 25th, 2009 08:26 PM

Just another rumour then!

Hanuman Sep 26th, 2009 05:04 AM

For the sake of clarity and for those who email me asking me to check the status of the Bangkok - Siem Reap flights with Bangkok Airways - THERE ARE NO CHANGES. Apart from that, since some have started new "rumours", Bangkok Airways will still have exclusive rights(or they will be the only airline flying from Bangkok to Siem Reap) for the foreseeable future. The agreement for this sector is ongoing and is not up at the end of this year. Don't canceled your tickets hoping that other cheaper airlines will fly this route by the end of the year!

My source comes from the head of IATA for S.E. Asia and one of the executive director of Thai Airways.
