More Thai Hotels on Sale

Okay, they seem to be getting desperate. Just found out that the rate for the Novotel at Bangkok Airport has been slashed down to $46 a night. I think that's only good for stays in July and August though. There's some other good deals on at Agoda:

Phuket hotels have really dropped their prices, 900-1,400 for quite good places. Occupancy is down but low season survives now on the Austrlaian market, now Australians account for the largest number of overseas visitors to Phuket in the low season, and if you go into Patong you know it !
US Navy on R&R helps business down there.

Thanks for the info. I'll need one night at the Novotel at the airport in November. It would be great if there was still a good discount. I don't expect $46, but I'd be delighted if it was $100.

MichaelBKK Jun 24th, 2009 06:50 AM

Kathie, currently Agoda shows the 'full' rate for the Novotel at $86, but that's probably the low season rate. Maybe if you book now you can get it for that.

Also, right now, I think they pay you to stay in Pattaya.

Kathie,

Are you mistaking the Novotel with the Sofitel which is right at the airport?

filmwill Jun 24th, 2009 07:49 AM

Hanuman, I thought the Novotel Suvarnabhumi was the airport hotel?

Hanuman Jun 24th, 2009 08:01 AM

Ohh you're right filmwill - yes my mistake. I was thinking of the other Novotel in Bangna vs the Novotel at the airport!

rhkkmk Jun 24th, 2009 10:35 AM

isn't there another decent hotel scheduled to open at the new airport some time in the next year??

Kathie Jun 24th, 2009 10:41 AM

lol, Michael, I wouldn't go to Pattaya even if they paid me!

I'll check and see if I can book a November date at the Novotel at a great rate. Thanks for the tip.

There are quite a few cheap hotels around the airport now, including one right on the approach road, but I don't know if any of them are 'decent'. Best Western was supposed to have an affiliated hotel open there this year, but I haven't seen it yet.

Kathie Jun 24th, 2009 06:35 PM

$132 for our date in November at the Novotel Suvarnabhumi. That's a better rate than last year.

FirstTimeToAsia Jun 24th, 2009 09:00 PM

Thanks for the tip, I just booked the Novotel for $46 for one night in August (need to fly out at 5am but did not want to pay that much). As discussed in a different thread, thought about staying in the city one more night--but that 5am flight just seems too early for me---especially at the end of my trip. I had never heard of Agoda--thanks again!

MichaelBKK Jun 24th, 2009 10:11 PM

Glad to help.

And wouldn't you know it, updated my database this morning, and there's the new Best Western, starting at $27:

If you click on the map near the top-right, you'll see quite a few hotels around the airport. They're all cheap (other than the Novotel), but I've no idea about the quality. Have to check them out one day.

Lots of inexpensive areas around the airport now, many of the loweser priced once include either one way free shuttle or some 'both ways', some keep the costs down by not including breakfast, but let's face it, if you are heading off early flight you can eat at airport, so in a way that helps to keep the costs down, around B 850-950 a night for many for ac with shower, TV etc, getting the shuttle transfers is a big plus, but does tend to be the less expensive ones offering those free transfers.

Thanks MichaelBKK for posting.

rhkkmk Jun 25th, 2009 06:15 PM

one of the best buys in bkk at the moment is the plaza anthenee for 3300 B pre-paid incl breakfast

mjs Jun 25th, 2009 10:28 PM

We may be going the first part of August. Noticed the Plaza A prices. Seems better than the Sheraton towers.

rhkkmk Jun 26th, 2009 05:29 AM

way better in every way, except you are away fro the river...that is if you meant ROS towers rooms

susiesan Jun 28th, 2009 11:07 AM

Price is 5600 B prepaid AT PLAZA A for a stay in March 2010, which is when I'll be in BKK for 2 nights. The discounting for next year hasn't begun yet that I can find.

Kathie Jun 28th, 2009 11:11 AM

No, way too early for discounts yet for March 2010.
