reflections is located in the "starving artists" community around ari BTS station not much for tourist going on up there.

Yeah, I ruled that one out for now, although people who have stayed there seem to like it well enough. I'm still reserved at the Marriott and will probably leave it that way sense it sounds like the Hilton still has a ways to go.

Just got back from Bangkok and my 2 days stay at the Millenium Hilton. I have pictures of the beach. It's on the top floor of the hotel. Never seen anything like it. The hotel is very nice and modern. Has everything you need. The best bed and pillows I ever slept on. So comfortable that I fell right to sleep. One annoying thing is the bathroom shower. Unless you put couple of towels by the shower door, the entire floor will be flooded due to the shallowness of the bottom door ledge. They have 4 different types but expensive restaurants. One is the all you can eat Dim Sum lunch at the Asian restaurant for $500 bahts. Didn't get to try it but I heard it's one of the best. They have a great breakfast buffet, which is included with your room cost. I would recommend this hotel for business people and travelers who want a quiet stay and all the modern conveniences. But for tourists, I would suggest a hotel somewhere close to the center of the city, such as the Pathumwan Princess. It is right next to the enormous MBK shopping center. You can walk from the hotel lobby straight into the shopping mall. Also, the BTS skytrain is right outside MBK. I will post the beach pictures soon.

does the hotel have a shuttle to the skytrain like the other river hotels? i think so but have not seen it mentioned...

i have reconsidered my stay and will now be at the peninsula instead...

interesting about the shower...odd...

When we were there in March they had a shuttle boat running to Taksim pier every half an hour. I asked the driver and he said when they get busier in a couple of months as more of the hotel opens up they would be shortening the length of the wait.

yep, I saw their boat running back and forth while we were there last month. I somewhat agree with tripper111777 about the location. As much as I loved the Marriott, I might go for something a bit more central next time. Or split time between the river and a central location if going through BKK twice on a trip.

Just got back and was at the Hilton from thursday -sunday. They do have a boat shuttle that goes to the rivercenter, the oriental and the Taksin pier. we never had to wait more than 5 minutes for the shuttle. The one to the rivercenter runs more often b/c people seem to go there more.

I really loved the hilton.Why are you reconsidering? Will post soon in trip report about it. We didnt have a problem with the shower mentioned above. The views are spectacular. The place is awesome and breakfast is delicious with many selections. The location is very convenient as you can go to many different piers. I really enjoyed it, maybe slighlty (only slightly) more than the Marriott.

Belle, when you say rivercenter, do you mean River City (the arts and antiques shopping center directly across the river from the Hilton) or somewhere else?

Ha! That's what I get for not proofreading. I meant river city. Yes the antiques place. The Hilton has a small lobby at river city, you can also check in there, get water, and they pretty much serve as concierge.

Ok, that's what I thought. When I was in Bangkok in November, they were still building the Hilton reception area in River City.

Hilton is a great hotel but the ideal is to book two hotels, one in the city center (for shopping), and couple of nights at the Hilton. This way you can have the best of both worlds. This is what we did and we had a great trip in Bangkok.

Here's a comment from Tripadvisor regarding the shower.

"the floor in the walk-in shower is completely flat and is barely half an inch lower than the bathroom floor level. For this reason, the drainage is unable to remove the shower water quickly enough, and the shower floods into the bathroom every time it is used, even with the door fully closed. Because of the flat-ness the water never drains away, and just remains overnight as a stagnant pool. The manager admitted that this is a fundamental design problem that affects many rooms. In my case, two bath mats were used (and soaked) after each shower, and still I had to tip-toe around the slippery bathroom floor while drying off - dangerous and unpleasant."

Damn, that sucks. What a headache for the managers! You'd think they would go ahead and put extra towels in all the rooms for everyone to deal with this.
