Lighting a Candle for GPanda

I will be lighting a candle as I think of and pray for Andy (GPanda) tomorrow morning when I get up and have breakfast. I wondered if all those Fodorites who have benefitted from Andy's great posts over the years will join me, all over the world, wherever you are, as your day begins on Monday Jan 3rd, light a candle for Andy and hold him and Beth in your thoughts and send strength and healing thoughts his way as he undergoes this surgery.
Please join me and let all Fodorites know where your candle will be shining

Sue Huml, will be lighting a candle in Chicago Illinois, USA.

It is already January 3 here in Beijing. The day dawned hazy but now the sun is shining which I take as an excellent omen here in the ancestral land of Pandas.

Heading out soon to find both joss sticks and a candle to light in anticipation of January 3 dawning in Boston soon. Can't be too careful so a little eastern insurance and a little western insurance sounds about right.

Wouldn't we love to see a satellite photo of candles lit 'round the world in support of Andy? Panda-monium on the planet,'tis.

Andy, for what it's worth, we spent hideous dark months at the Brigham a few years back and thought that all was coming to an end but miraculously it didn't. I don't presume to know your journey but I do know from hard-won experience that life can surprise us -- fortunes can turn just when we are certain that they won't. I am thinking of you.

More candles for Beth, Bob, and Karen during the vigil ahead.

We will be thinking of all of you and watching for updates.

althom1122 Jan 2nd, 2011 05:28 PM

I'll light one here in Maryland, too. All the best.

Considering this was only posted about four hours ago, this is so heartwarming and special. Just thinking of all that focused energy and thought coming from so many parts of the world all beaming in towards our GPanda. Even if your dawn has already broken in Australia, Thailand, Japan or India, it's not too late to join us, because Jan 3rd hasn't arrived here (in the US) yet.
I want Beth to picture our earth from outer space with burning candles/joss sticks/ tiki torches on many continents with us humans spending some focused moments sending our healing thoughts towards a special friend to all of us - one who I've never even met.

Sue, but of course you know he's not nearly as nice in person as he is on Fodor's?

Only joking!!! But Andy is a seriously funny guy, so that comment was in his honor.

My candle is ready, and I'm going outside to wish on a star right now.

thursdaysd Jan 2nd, 2011 10:39 PM

No candles available in my Trichy hotel (there was an emergency one in the bathroom at the last place), but am sending white light and healing thoughts from India.

rhkkmk Jan 3rd, 2011 07:24 AM

our candle is burning in needham as well

sharona Jan 3rd, 2011 07:28 AM

My candle is also burning in the Boston western suburbs. Maybe if we have a candle ring around Boston it'll keep out all the bad stuff.

rhkkmk Jan 3rd, 2011 12:40 PM

we saw andy about 2:30 and stayed for about 1/2 hours.... they did extensive surgery as the tumor had more than doubled...

he was alert, or as alert as you can be after 5+ hours of surgery. He had color in his face and was moderately talkative although they had just given him some morphine for the pain.... He did complain about a huge headache---duh....

his vision, which he most feared for seemed good straight on but his left perpherial vision is not good....the dr. explained that this MAY improve after the swelling goes down. His right eye seemed fine.

beth is doing well, at least on the surface....

it is expected that he will return home before the end of the week...

I'm amazed that Andy was talking already. Thanks for keeping us in the loop. You have all been on my mind today as you sat with Beth. I just loved thinking of all those people united together from every corner of the world all sending the healing vibes Andy's way.
Please keep us updated Bob.
And, we will all keep the GPanda in our thoughts.
