Hrm, I'm in Bangkok right now and, to be honest, I'm not a fan of the place.
It's hot and humid and congested. I just can't get past the fact that by 10 or 11 am, it's almost 100 degrees! And higher with humidity. Same thing at 10 or 11 pm. I just feel like I'm bathing in sweat, which is taking off the enjoyment. Plus it's the end of my monthlong trip, so my 'tout tolerance' level is low. In other countries they were persistently trying to get you to hire them for mostly legitimate, slightly overpriced services. There's less pestering here, but still a fair bit and they're either extremely overpriced or outright scams. I couldn't find a taxi near the Grand Palace for the life of me that would transport me somewhere, anywhere, except a gem shop, for a meter rate today. I asked three before the fourth finally agreed, and I had to walk for 10 minutes away from the tourist areas.
Now, after all that negative, I definitely think you should come here! Because you'll never know what cities will or won't click for you if you don't visit them to see. Me, I've learned from my 3-5 day stay in various cities that when I come back next, I'll focus on Vietnam. I enjoyed that the most, but I met plenty of others who couldn't stand it.
And, of course, you're going to be affected by your mood, your health, the temperature, those around you, etc. So it's somewhat hit or miss. But I can't fathom being over here for 2 months and not giving it a try!
