Indian railway trip
 

Hi Guys!
I have plans to visit India on this autumn and I love travel long distance with train instead of plane. Is there anybody who has experience with Kerala Express? Any suggestion?

I have ridden a number of Indian trains, both day and night, but not that specific one. I broke my trips up into shorter segments. What do you want to know about Indian trains? Your question is far too vague.

I know seat61.com, it is very good website with many useful information and I used it in case of other countries, but these come from one traveler and from one point. I am interested in more experience from other travelers. For example how is it safe or get some pro and vica versa argument regarding this long train ride.

I m a solo female traveler and I felt safe on the trains. I did carry a cable lock so I could lock my bigger bag under the seats, and I did wear my money belt at all times. However, things have become less safe for women in India since my last trip.

My longest train trip in India was Varanasi to Amritsar, but that was only one overnight. I did get a bit bored on that trip. I would not spend more than one night on a train these days, as I would want a shower.

To really get to grips and come to terms with rail travel in any Asian country, you need to be there and experience it....that's when all the senses take over and need to be experienced.

And travel in the same Class as the 'real people', that's where you'll enjoy the real authentic travel.

Kerala express is a good train from Southern part to the Northern part of the country but the route taken to Delhi from Kerala is slightly detorous . Trains like Rajdhani take the shorter and more scenic Konkan Railway route and reaches Delhi in a shorter time as compared to Kerala express
Safety wise nothing much to bother especially if you travel in AC coaches . Summer journey by Non AC can be tiring if you are not much used to the heat

I do have personal experience. Its absolutely good, but would recommend to to have railway canteen food. It is not hygiene.

I (westerner) have eaten the food served on the traisn without incident. Only veg, though. I would not eat station food.

There are 3 trains on the route connecting Kerala with Delhi. Kerala Express is in the middle tier, not super comfortable but not too bad either. But yes, it does not take the scenic route. The Himsagar Express also takes a similar route but is a weekly train and doesn't really go fast. Since it doesn't start from Kerala, not the most comfortable option either.

The Rajdhani is your best bet for a long journey. Its fast, neat and as comfortable as you can get on Indian railways. I'd also suggest sticking to the train's vegetarian catering.

Kerala express is an Indian super fast train which runs between New Delhi to Thiruvananthapuram. Its runs between these two stations with average speed of 60 km/h. It covers a long distance of 2832 km in 47 hours. This is best for you if you love to spend your time in a train.

Kerela express is one of the super fast train. Kerala Express operates on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday. taste of the food is quite OK. punctuality has turned out to be a very difficult mission for Kerala express to achieve, at least this time.

Indian Trains
 

I have travelled many times on Indian trains in the 50s and 60s and enjoyed the overnight journeys. However, in recent years I have only had the misfortune of travelling overnight on a couple of occasions and for that I am extremely thankful.
Indian trains no matter what class, even first class are dirty. The toilets are very bad and you would need the hand sanitizer every minute. Planes are not much better but at least you are couped up for a shorter journey. Train travel in India is nothing like Europe.

Got worse and I am not prepared to compromise cleanliness.
