I'm very tempted to go to Bali alone...
I was in Bali some years ago with my now grown up kids and loved it. I always wanted to return..
I saw a great flight deal with Singapore Airlines for February and I am very tempted to book it, though I would go alone.... I need some encouragement from you, I guess!!. :-) - Is February a good time to go? - I am in my early 50s and used to travel alone but not this far....I live in Western Europe. - What do you think? Should I book it?? Thanks Teresa |
I'd book it! Go for it!
There are some great airfare deals as well as hotel deals. Now would be a great time to take advantage of it. As you know, Bali is a wonderfully warm place to go. You'll be well taken care of. |
i think you would be just fine there....picking the right place or places to stay would make all the difference....sanur is very nice as is ubud....both are towns with all the services you might need...seminyak is also a good choice....
|
Go for it! I spent time in Jakarta and Yogyakarta alone, Bali would be a breeze. If you go over to the Travel Tips board you'll find several threads on solo travel.
|
Thank you all so much for your encouragement!!´That's what I needed.
Should I make a stopover in Singapore? I was never there and the tariff is almost the same. |
I'm going by myself in September. I'll be sure to report back!
Go ahead and book it Tere! |
If you haven't been to Singapore, I think a few days stopover is well worth it.

Another for Go For It!! I had never traveled alone and at 58 I went 2 years ago on my own. My husband did meet me 10 days later so I could then introduce him to everyone I met. I was never felt lonely, left out and it did not stop me from doing anything because I was alone. I went to the nightly dances, took cooking lessons and hired a guide to hike to the top of the volcano! I also had a massage or facial everyday and caught up many books I never had the opportunity to read. It was very inpowering for me.

Travelling to Bali alone ought to be OK, though there'll be usual touts and thieves to be even more aware of.
I'm always a fan of taking a break on longer flights to make jetlag easier to deal with whilst it also gives you an opportunity to see different places you otherwise wouldn't. Check out www.tigerairways.com , budget subsidiary of Singapore Airlines for great deals all throughout Asia and even on to Australia. Another likely cheaper option for you would be to take easyjet or one of the other budget airlines over to England and then use www.airasia.com to fly to Kuala Lumpur. The only downside of Bali for you will be the weather, February being height of wet season, it's south of the equator whereas it'll be different north of the equator and from KL you could go to LangKawi, any of the Thai islands, or Tioman [ once in worlds top ten] down in southern Malaysia, and also easily accessed from Singapore and flights between KL and Singapore can be next to nothing as they can be from KL to many interesting destinations. |
You'll regret not grabbing the chance!
As long as you know how to keep yourself occupied, you'll have a great time. |
PS. Yes, you should stop over in Singapore.

I have just returned from Bali and had a wonderful time. Although I was with my husband I would have no problems going by myself. Try to spend a few days in Ubud as well. Everything was very easy and you will see Bali has certainly changed. A couple of days stopover in Singapore would be good.
I travel alot there for work and there is alot to do and buy. Go on a city tour. You will have a fabulous time. |
Life is short - why not :) I just turned 50 & this is my year of 50 new things. I am traveling from California to Bali in July - solo. I have family that I will be meeting for some evenings, but all day trips on my own. I am bringing some great books for down time & I can't wait to explore - Have fun!
|
I visited Bali solo and loved it (even tho I got ill for a couple of days). Hire Putu to drive you around to some interesting places.
|
Well, I have to say that your feedback ancouraged me to do it and I just bought the ticket!!!!!Woooow
Can you believe I paid 361 euros for a R/T with Singapore Airlines from Milan to Denpasar with a stopover in Singapore on the way back ????? How could I miss this bargain and not return to wonderful Bali? Again, thank you so much for all your help and ideas!!:-) I will keep you posted! Teresa |
Good for you Teresa!
Goalis7- I love the idea of 50 new things :) |
Great fare! Have a wonderful trip.
Goalis7 - "I am bringing some great books" - books weigh so heavy - I've started putting books on tape (from the library) on my iPod and taking that. |
thursdaysd - thanks for the ipod/book tip - I am going to look into that today.
|
tere: if you are going to Singapore in Feb, bear in mind Chinese new year lies on feb 14th. It is a big occasion and it will be fun for you to see how the Chinese celebrate their new year and the coming year is the year of the tiger.

Bali was actually the first place I travelled to alone (oh so many many years ago!!!) & it was great. A friend was supposed to be coming with me but backed out at the last minute & I just decided to do it. Had a great time. Have a wonderful trip.
