Enjoying your report. On your return trip to Bangkok, if you are up early - you may want to head to lampini park to watch the early morning activities. We found it a delightful way to spend a few hrs and it is a contrast to the rest of the bustling city. I loved Bangkok!

Love your reporting! weather forecast makes Bankok seem wet and storming every day? is it so? The heat I expect but does it rain every day? we should be leaving in about a week for Bangkok so curious if rain gear is in order or a pancho?

internetwiz Nov 6th, 2014 06:21 AM

If it's raining, your best bet is an umbrella. We bring rain gear, but it's so hot and steamy an umbrella will suffice. Just bring water shoes, or something you don't mind getting wet, in case you get caught in a deluge.

andie, October is often wet in Bangkok, but the farther you get into November, the less rain you get.

Kathie. Who's thread is this? Andie has already started 10 threads covering a short trip!

Hi all

Now I have some catching up to do which I will do later. Loy Krathong was amazing and I not only launched a Krathong I also launched a lantern. I'm all set now, I'd say.

At any rate: Air Asia seems to have changed the time of my flight to Krabi without having first sent an email telling me it was doing so.

My flight was to be at 1235 pm next week and is now 535 pm. Later is fine by me but only if I can trust that. It seems odd that my purchase and initial emails had the early time but the actual checkin email says 1735.

Has this happened to anyone before? Again, no interim email telling me the time has changed.

Kop Koon Kah!

According to the AA website the ETD is 1735...

Thanks will look soon. Once I check in it should be final. Still, odd, and shortens my Krabi time even more.

In other news I sat near Richie Mehta at lunch (late, still sitting here) and had a nice chat.

PS lunch is/was on Nimmenhaemin road...

Following along, flygirl...

Keep it coming.

Are you going back to Bangkok? I went to a great Thai "tapas" on Suk soi 55. Great food and killer cocktails :) . I went alone and sat at the bar..... I think it's only open for dinner though.

And this morning I leave the Anantara Chiang Mai. What a stupendous hotel. Perfect location and especially for the festivities! I'm sad to leave so soon. What a fun town and so much more to explore. Also a shame that the rain/drizzle has finally let up just in time to leave. Yesterday was starting to clear and luckily for the festivities on the 6th the rain held off.

I left my late lunch and took a song teuw (sp?) to Chiang Mai gate. Just in time to see the parade lined up, very loud festive music... And another plunk in a barstool this time to watch the parade. Changs later...

And now I have arrived in Pai. First day of driving in Thailand and happy to report I kept the shiny side up.

Drive was a piece of cake, actually.

:)

So glad you are enjoying your own driving trip now. Roads are mostly good and you are far away from big city traffic.

Be safe and don't forget to come back and tell us about your experiences! Enjoy!

yestravel Nov 8th, 2014 09:29 AM

i think much is made of an easy, scenic drive. Doesn't even rate in top 10 scary drives for me. although i did buy one of those silly tee shirts
with the # of curves listed. Have fun in the lovely countryside.

My comments are so short each time because I write updates over breakfast or lunch using wifi on my iPhone. Will try to sit at computer some point.

In Mae Hong Son now. Another easy and lovely drive. Fern Resort wonderful and enjoyed pool yesterday. This morning visited a long neck tribe market and fed an elephant. Didn't go riding - didn't feel right about it. Didn't research this location ahead of time and don't know how they are treated. I know ENP treats them well but no time.

Agree with that. Frustrating and time consuming.

So: do the dogs here get squished often by cars? I've never seen so many dogs in the road before. And they don't move. They glance up sometimes but mostly just lie there, flat out. I have seen a few doing the sleep of the undead in some strolls, too, and they simply don't respond even to a hey doggie. It's not even that hot so it's not like they are sleeping off the heat. The sun IS relentless, though, although in some cases they are sleeping in the sun. ???

rhkkmk Nov 10th, 2014 05:52 AM

imo, best to ignore the dogs
