Flygirl: Great that Cotton House is working out for you. I'm happy that Dah is still there. Khun Reed is the owner, but Dah has been there for a very long time. I have all of my fabric piled up in my living room right now and don't know how I'll get it all there. I'll have to jump on my suitcases to close them. LOL!

Cotton House is great with their deliveries. With my skirts, they always have them all folded nicely and each one individually wrapped in plastic so that I only have to toss them all into the suitcase as is.

I agree that the Shangri-La chain spoils you. The first time I arrived at the one in Kowloon and the door man welcomed me by name I was baffled. Now you have to stay at the Valley Wing of the one in Singapore. Amazing!

I usually go to Bangkok in December and January as that's my favorite time. I've also been in November which I also like.

It's quite dry in December/January. The temps are usually around in the mid to upper 80s, plus or minus a few degrees.

I've also been to Bangkok in March and August which are not my favorite months. In August, it can rain really hard and make things sticky. I also had rain and flooded streets in March.

Below is the first lines from my August 2006 trip report to Bangkok. It was cooler in Bangkok than here in L.A., but there was the higher humidity there, due to the rain.

"So folks...Have been in Bangkok since Sunday. The weather is nice and cool...about 88 degrees. At home we had three weeks straight of 100F-119F...averaging 112F where I live."

So, heat is all relative depending on what one is used to. And I don't have central air where I live, so I'd rather be in Bangkok and at least sleeping in an air conditioned apartment than sleeping here at home in the heat as I regularly do, but have always lived through it. Smiles.

Smeagol: About 4 years ago. However, close friends have been there over the past few years and also this year of which I've mapped out plans for them to visit sites,restaurants, etc. I'll be back there next month.

Got home in the afternoon yesterday - brrrr. I was tired of the heat and humidity but wasn't banking on sub-freezing temps!

I've eyeballed my Visa account. Not all charges are in yet, but most are, and, just giving it a quick review I'd say that my per-day spend was roughly comparable to my recent trip Paris for the same amount of nights. Contrast staying in mostly 5-star places in Thailand versus a very nice apartment in Paris, though. Totally happy with my lodging in Paris of course - just an example. In Thailand most of my daily money went to the hotel - everything else was pretty cheap - whereas in Paris the lodging was fairly reasonable but the meals and entertainment are more.

Overall Thailand is a great vacation value!

Yeah, I heard. Smiles. My best Thai friend, in Bangkok, has kept me updated on the going ons over there and my best Thai friend, here in L.A., was just home to Bangkok in the Spring and was shocked at a lot. She always says that I know Bangkok better than she does. Smiles. She goes home about every 3 years, to see her siblings, and then comes back to L.A. as she's lived here for 2 decades.

Flygirl: Glad you had a great trip and made it home fine. Too bad about the cold weather. Bummer. But, I've been seeing the weather reports and it seems quite cold in a lot of places east of me as we're having weather in the mid 70s.

As for Bangkok vs.Paris prices, in general, I find apartments and serviced apartments in Bangkok way less than what I pay and for what I get in Paris. I rent an apartment in Paris and although I love it, I don't get an 80 square meter studio with balcony, a huge pool on the premises, a spa, a workout room, a restaurant, daily breakfast included in the price of the apartment, daily maid service, and desk clerks to handle things. The price of the 40-45 square meter Paris apartment that I rent is way more than what I pay for my Bangkok, 5-star serviced apartment. Food is also less expensive when I either grocery shop or eat out in Bangkok as compared to Paris.

I meant total spend - the hotels were a little more than the apartment in Paris, but everything else in Thailand was so cheap it made up the difference. Paris costs more for everything else - net net means the two daily total spends were similar (and possibly less, in Thailand).

Cold is OK! Maybe not this cold, but cold is fine. 50 would have been perfect.

In other news, completely upside down jetlag is annoying. I got 6 hours of sleep the first night home (in part because I was too keyed to fall asleep until 11 PM even though I had just come off of a huge flight) and was tired all day. Did that mean I'd drop off to sleep? Of course not. Midnight and I'm still foofing around. Finally fell asleep at 4 AM - four hours after lights out. And up at 9 AM.

The building is connected to the Emporium Mall which is connected to the PromPhong skytrain station. Plus, there's a bank (ATMs/money exchange) in the Emporium office building connected between Emporium Suites and Emporium Mall. It can't be more convenient.

I've stayed there since starting in 2005, stayed there the last time I was in Bangkok, and have been very satisfied. However, next month, I will be staying in two non-serviced apartments to see how that goes and have gotten great prices. I will probably also stay back at Emporium Suites for some days as I will be in Bangkok for nearly a month.

Flygirl: Jetlag is a mess. When I get home from S.E. Asia, I'm messed up for a good week. Smiles. And when I return from this upcoming trip, I will need to get over the jetlag fast as a few days after I get home, I'm flying off to Mardi Gras, so another flight and time zone. LOL!
