I have traveled extensively in India on my own, I have a few years still to run on a ten year visa, and there are areas in the northwest I would like to see, but I am becoming more and more reluctant to go back. Maybe I'll go back to Nepal instead...

Gang Rapes in India is a big problem but it seems that at after a long time, peoples aren't just shrugging it off anymore. The media is also concerned about that, the public is outraged and the higher ups are being pressured. Once the elections end, So now diverted focus would also come back to these issues for a better country.

Apparently not a gang rape this time, but the victim was a 5-year-old girl. Breaks my heart.

Awful! One can only hope that the rapists are found, brought to justice and suffer an punishment commensurate with the heinous crime they committed.

They are being caught, brought to justice, sent to jail for the rest of their dirty lives and in some cases, hanged till death!!

Do you mean in this specific case? Since ONE person has been arrested (not tried as yet), and you use the plural "they", it appears you are referring to Indian rapists in general, in which case I fear that your statement is NOT true. Some are, but I doubt it is even a majority.

e. According to the BBC already 19000 cases have been registered in India since 2016.
f. Under the new law which prescribes death by hanging, the trial courts have pronounced the judgement & conviction in as few as 46 Days in some cases!
g. The states have a point system where successful prosecution is rewarded.
These facts are available on the Internet for all to see & read.

Honestly, it seems to me that 19,000 cases (of what, exactly?) in a country where reporting of crimes against women is not exactly encouraged, with 162 people convicted of crimes against children (including what, exactly) is not necessarily something about which to brag. Nor is judgement & conviction in as few as 46 days necessarily a good thing.

I'm sure there are people in India who are working very hard and with great commitment to reduce crimes against women and children and to create a fairer and more just society for all. I wish them well.

In the meantime, I'm not willing to risk my safety in India and so will take my travel dollars elsewhere. JMO.
