The balcony in Guen's room was just great - I'd pay extra for it!

Gpanda Jan 11th, 2010 11:02 AM

Just be thankful they allowed you to pay in pounds. Think of how expensive it would have been if they charged you in dollars. Have a great time Nickey. We assume Muffin will be doing chores around the house and not visit a single pub while you're gone.

Smeagol Jan 11th, 2010 12:03 PM

I think the local chinese and chippy will do a roaring trade whilst i'm away.....
Actually i could choose whatever currency i wanted, but i figured the £ would be more meaningful.

Gpanda Jan 11th, 2010 12:08 PM

Are you aware of the slang interpretation of "Chippy" in the US? While she may do a roaring trade, but I didn't think Muffin would let you know about it. Very progressive of you. I certainly hope you have a great time in Asia.

lcuy Jan 11th, 2010 12:30 PM

And does muffin have a thing for Asians?

Smeagol Jan 11th, 2010 12:52 PM

what on EARTH is a chippy in the states?
Lcuy - LOL

Gpanda Jan 11th, 2010 01:03 PM

Nickey, here's the bad news:

chippy

"promiscuous young woman; prostitute," 1880, U.S. slang, earlier (1864) short for chipping-bird "sparrow," perhaps ultimately a variant of cheep.Online Etymology Dictionary, © 2001 Douglas Harper

The good news is that Muffin will have a very good time while you're gone.

Gpanda Jan 11th, 2010 01:11 PM

It may cut down on how much Chinese food he eats.

Smeagol Jan 11th, 2010 01:14 PM

I have questioned Muffin about this and he has neither confirmed or denied any of the above!!

Gpanda Jan 11th, 2010 03:25 PM

Wise man! If he helps you pack, I might have my suspicions.

Guenmai Jan 11th, 2010 08:59 PM

Smeagol-To answer your question about the terrace and what it looks over. If it's a park view then it's Queen Sikrit's park and what I call the million dollar, unobstructed, city view. As far as I'm concerned the regular apartment that I have is worth every baht just to daily wake up to and go to sleep to that view; very rare for Bangkok. Happy Travels!

shanek Jan 11th, 2010 10:21 PM

I think you would have more to worry about if you were staying at home and Muffin was going to Bangkok alone. Much wider choice of Chippy's.

Smeagol Jan 11th, 2010 10:40 PM

Very funny all of you. Andy ther is not much cahnce of hime helping me pack. When we go on holiday together he just turns up!!
Guen - thanks for the info, i have booked and am actually really looking forwad to staying there. (will miss the rive of course but i might go o one of the hotel bars to get my river fix)

Gpanda Jan 12th, 2010 02:07 AM

This is a near perfect Fodors thread. Helpful information was exchanged and an amusing tangential issue arose.

Smeagol Jan 12th, 2010 02:32 AM

Also amusingly my T E and R seem to be sticking which i didn't notice before.....
I can spell honest!

Guenmai Jan 12th, 2010 08:52 PM

Smeagol: I doubt that you'll miss the river with as much as there is to do in Sukhumvit and as many restaurant and shopping choices as there are. It's alive there.

Just remember that it's a serviced apartment building and not a hotel. So, you will see everyday life at the building like kids in the restaurant for the buffet breakfast all dressed up in their school uniforms with their nannies, businessmen moving through the buffet area fast and eating and rushing off to work, long-term residents lounging leisurely at breakfast, etc..So, it's just a different rhythm than staying in a hotel which is what I love about it. Happy Travels!
