Cheap as chips accommodation in Mumbai?
Hi
I'm traveling through India at the moment with a mate of mine from Australia, and just wondering whether anyone had any recommendations for a good, but cheap, place to stay in mumbai? We plan on being there towards the end of the month, and from the guidebook, it seems like most of the cheap accommodation is pretty scary stuff. Does anyone have anything that would cost about 500 to 600 rupees for a room with 2 beds? We don't need anything flash, just as long as it isnt resembling a prison cell. Thanks for all the help wmyeoh |
Anything in that range will be too seedy to stay.I suggest you try the Youth Hostel, which would be inexpensive but safe to stay in.Your guide book could give you the info.
Try the following address of the Youth Hostels association of India:Maharashtra State Branch, YHAI, 109, Swapna Purti, Dr. Baba Saheb Ambedkar Road, Parel Naka, Mumbai-400012 Maharashtra Tel. No. +91 (022) 24126004 Check their wbesite: http://www.yhaindia.org/state.aspx |
You could also try some of the guest houses on Apollo Bunder just beyond the Taj Hotel, great location - beware tho, some try to pack beds into a room as they charge per bed so make sure of what you are getting into.

hey
thanks for the swift reply just wanted to know what your definition of seedy is? ;) and if anyone has stayed in any hotels around that price range (or slightly above) and could recommend them? thanks again wmyeoh |
My daughter and her girlfriend stayed at the YWCA and she loved it!
Rates start at INR 890 for a single non A/C room to INR3124 for a family room. They had a twin airconditioned room with own bathroomfor 3 nights for INR5850. That includes breakfast and either lunch or dinner. I know they have a website which I'm sure you could find if you searched. |
Thanks for the suggestions, but seeing as we are both guys, i doubt they would let us into the YWCA (though we would love to give it a shot!).
