Shouldn't we first ask why he stopped?

I have stopped as well and so has many of the regular core posters. Too many detractors and too many "creepy" posters here IMO!

Too bad. One of the issues with public forums is posters like H mentioned.
For me it seems the TR's I post get some dings but mostly it seems the feedback is decent so I'll continue.
Hanuman I want to get back to BKK someday and check temps nearly daily and it seems that mid December at least this year was about mid 80's. It that typical?

jacketwatch - on a normal year for Bangkok we get around 2 - 3 weeks of very pleasant temperature or weather. This year pretty much the whole of December was very cool and dry and now there's another cold front coming in so it looks like we will get unto 2 months of nice weather.

Mid December to mid January will be the best bet IMO for good Bangkok temp.

I, for one, could not possibly plan my trip without the help of the trip reports. I refer to them constantly, in each phase of my planning, and will frequently download them to my iPad and use them during my travels.

I appreciate all the help I get on the forum, and I want you to know that those trip reports are especially helpful in initial planning. It's only after I read them that I even know what questions to ask!

Don't let the detractors win! The trip reports are a valuable guide to those contemplating visiting the places these reports cover.

In the beginning there was "Where's Waldo" followed by "Where in the World is Carmen Santiago" and finally the digital version.... " Where's Bob".

Trip reports are worth writing if you have been some place that is new to you. If you've just spent a month between Bangkok and a Thai beach resort for the umpteenth time, it gets old. Bob does post "live", so we do get the important stuff...

Maybe I've been lucky, or maybe nobody is reading mine, but I've not had any "detractors" posting on my TRs. My main gripe is that detailed TRs take a long time to write, and many times it feels as if they are not appreciated by those reading them and getting valuable info for their upcoming trips. A simple "Thank you" would go a long way in making those writing TRs feel that their time writing them is time well spent.

shelly, sometimes I wonder if my trip reports are helpful. I generally get good feedback, but it seems there are few who read. But there are always more lurkers than commenters. And sometimes years later, someone will post about how helpful my reports about X was. My Java report, for instance, didn't seem to stir a lot of enthusiasm, but tripplanner just went there because of my report.

I put a lot of time into my reports, and re-reading them brings back vivid memories of my trips. I've been saying that I'll put together a book for each of my trips with Cheryl's photos and my commentary as a post-retirement project. I hope I will do that.

I try to write from the road, and I certainly enjoy the feedback I get. Traveling solo, it helps me feel connected. I can't say I've noticed any "detractors" on my TRs, and I've writen quite a few. I do skip TRs for very well-covered areas - I didn't write up my third trip to Lisbon, or my second trip to Nice, for instance. Myanmar, however...

I love the trip reports; they're are a great way to travel vicariously. Doesn't matter whether it's to a place I've never been or to a familiar haunt, doesn't matter whether it's a style of travel that I might enjoy (or have enjoyed) or a style that I can't imagine doing -- they're all fun.

I have no clue what Hanuman is talking about when he speaks of "detractors" and "creepy" posters. I just took a look at the most recent trip reports (posts labeled as trip reports) from both Bob (Russia - Aug '09) and Hanuman (Cal - June '12). Couldn't find anything negative -- only supportive comments and questions.

Both Bob and Hanuman have certainly stepped in it when they offer their own political opinions in the travel forums. Is that what Hanuman is talking about?

Don, I remember that one of Hanuman's report attracted racist remarks from someone - certainly an unpleasant experience - and I expect that is what he is referring to. I always enjoy Hanuman's reports. An who would want to miss Bob's reports of eating and shopping?

I am certainly very grateful for the invaluable information I get from Trip reports, and get some great ideas about places I'd never think of visiting otherwise.

If someone does past something negative, it's probably more to do with them, than it is with the OP - the vast majority of us appreciate what effort goes into even a short report, let alone a detailed one.

I greatly enjoy reading the many styles of trip reports here; but more importantly they are an invaluable tool for me in my trip planning. I have
gotten many wonderful tips and recommendations for various destinations.
This forum is my main source when I am in the planning stage (which is always alot of fun, by the way). Upon our return home, I always post a TR, which I also enjoy writing and sharing. I really appreciate the efforts of all who take the time to share their experiences and advice. I
