BKK Hyatt or IHC hotels

I'll be stopping off in Bkk just for 2nts, 1 full day, and am interested in shopping at the malls and spa-ing. Is the Hyatt and the IHC the only 2 lux hotels withing walking distance of the malls? I've stayed at the Hyatt before and it was very convenient and had a good spa but would love to try someplace else this time.

I assume you mean the Grand Hyatt Erawan and the Intercontinental (which I would abbreviate "ICH"). We stayed at the Intercontinental in 2007 and thought it was fine - the location is excellent. The other lux hotel in the area is the Four Seasons. It is not as well situated but it is technically in the main shopping district - there is a skytrain stop directly in front of it.

Yes, and thanks. I think I will be going to Burma for a few days prior and your photos were incredible-have been looking at your report but not sure exactly where I'll be going yet since it will only be about 6days.

In terms of location, the IC & Hyatt are virtually identical. I've stayed at both and prefer the Hyatt slightly: more contemporary, better facilities. If you're top tier w/IC, then the IC is the better choice though.

Guess I'll just stay at the Hyatt again-I did like the location for a one day stop and had the best massage of my trip there. Thanks.

in the same general area is also the plaza anthanee, the nei lert, the new hotel at the old world trade center ??, four seasons, tons of lux serviced apartments, jw marriott and a few new hotels to be opened soon...

Plaza Athenee and Nai Lert are not remotely within walking distance of the shopping area, but they are two Skytrain stops away.

The new hotel is the Centara Grand, which just opened. I haven't seen them myself, but one guest mentioned it looked like the furniture was older than the hotel. Maybe that was just temporary.

michael, i thought you were a walker??

I may enjoy getting around on foot, but walking down Ploenchit isn't exactly an enjoyable experience. With so many places around Siam to stay, I wouldn't really consider the places on Witayu if you want to be close to Siam.

I am in complete agreement with Michael. I, too, would not stay along Wittayu Rd. Too many other options right in the heart of things!
