Bangkok: Massage

Hi Everyone,
I will be in Bangkok on Sept 15 for 5 days and would like to experience Thai massage, can you suggest places I can go to? I'm staying at Adelphi hotel.

Thanks

rhkkmk Aug 21st, 2012 07:40 PM

all around adelphi you will see places

massasge school at wat pho

ask the hotel too

crellston Aug 21st, 2012 11:40 PM

Go to the Thai massage school at Wat Po. The are a couple of places inside the temple but you often have to queue for a while. Alternatively, the school itself is just outside the temple walls and has air con and you rarely have to queue. Usually my first stop on arrival in Bangkok. Great for alleviatining the effects of jet lag!

There are lots of massage places nearby, but if you want a more memorable experience, go to Face Spa, a short walk from Thong Lor BTS station ( I think it is only one skytrain stop from your hotel) You can get just a massage, but the coffee scrub combined with the hot compress massage is my favorite. They do it in a little Thai house so it feels very "Thai".

Click on spa menu at the bottom for prices.

Yankee,

If you are looking for a spa a lot of the massage places near the Adelphi are basically a front for prostitution. Real spa, like the Face Spa cited by Lcuy is what you want. Apart from that there is also the Oasis Spa in Bangkok which is suppose to be good. However, the best spas are the one at the top hotels like the Oriental and the Banyan Tree.

If you are looking to try traditional Thai massage then Wat Po as crellston has mentioned is a good choice. If you want a Thai massage in a more modern setting, with a/c, private rooms etc then try Health Land. Their masseuse for Thai massage as well as foot massage is quite good but for swedish or oil massage the other spas are better. Nearest location to you will be Health Land soi Asoke.

my favorite place for a massage is bai po, behind the grand business inn hotel on suk soi 11. they are real pros(not that kind of pros). lol.

i've been gong to them for years, and it has always been consistenly very good.

i've been to about 20 massage places, and bai po is the best.

Hanuman Aug 22nd, 2012 08:39 AM

Another thought is that perhaps you can ask the receptionist if they know of a lady who can come to your apartment and give you a massage. Normally around 500 - 700 Baht for a 2 hour massage.

simpsonc510 Aug 22nd, 2012 08:48 AM

Yankeetraveller, kuranosuke's suggestion would be a very short walk for you from Adelphi. I assume you are staying at Adelphi on soi 8 and not soi 41.

To get to Bai Po massage you simply walk up to the main street (Sukhumvit) from Adelphi (that is to the LEFT as you walk out of the hotel) and when you get to Sukhumvit you simply cross that street. It is a busy street. Sometimes you can jog thru the traffic and sometimes you need to go up the skytrain escalator, walk across, and take the stairway down on the other side. Soi 11 is that street this is directly across from Adelphi, soi 8. The Grand Business Inn is a short walk down soi 11, on the righthand side. You will see a restaurant called Kinarree and space for a car or two parking right in front of the GBI hotel. I am assuming you walk thru the lobby to get to Bai Po in the back? Kuranosuke would know that little bit of information.

Point is, Bai Po is very easy to get to from Adelphi on soi 8.

kuranosuke Aug 22nd, 2012 08:59 AM

spot on carol, you can walk thru the lobby, out the back door, and bai po is right there. very good directions.

simpsonc510 Aug 22nd, 2012 09:09 AM

Thanks Ken. What about that rather fancy looking massage and spa place right on soi 8? I don't recall the name of it. It is between Adelphi and Sukhumvit Rd. I've walked by it dozens of times but have never gone inside. Is it just a front, as Pook was talking about, I wonder?

kuranosuke Aug 22nd, 2012 10:52 PM

I've not noticed the fancy place that you so speak. I rarely go to soi 8.

I like bai po as its good therapy for my stress.

simpsonc510 Aug 23rd, 2012 06:39 AM

Stress??? YOU, stress???? (lol)

hawaiiantraveler Aug 23rd, 2012 06:52 AM

Ken,

Any particular therapist to recommend? We may try this place in Nov....

Aloha!

hawaiiantraveler Aug 23rd, 2012 06:55 AM

BTW, My Hawaiian brother Ken is always under stress, the life of a ninja warrior is not an easy one. And now with the football season coming up even doubly so :)

kuranosuke Aug 23rd, 2012 08:29 AM

carol, hai! lots of stress. lol

ht, i like putt(her name) for an excellent foot massage. but, these gals come and go, so she may not be there in nov. but, i will be there next week, so i'll see if she is there, and alert her that the viceroy of the kingdom of hawaii will grace her presence with his company, oh, and don't forget, the viceroyness, lady linda.

give the 38?

Hanuman Aug 23rd, 2012 09:34 AM

The "gals" come and go because you strip naked for a foot massage!

simpsonc510 Aug 23rd, 2012 04:02 PM

lol...

hawaiiantraveler Aug 24th, 2012 07:04 AM

Take my season tickets away from me but yes, give the 38.

ken, when do you leave? We are stuck in Kailua this evening watching the in-laws mansion, haha
get in touch when you get back.....domo and a hui hou!

yt, what kind of rate are you getting at the Adelphi?

Aloha!

simpsonc510 Aug 24th, 2012 04:53 PM

HT, my dates in October are showing an executive 1-bedroom apartment for about $95-100 per night. Not a bad rate at all!

kuranosuke Aug 25th, 2012 08:30 AM

ht, l leave monday. will ring you up when i get back. your fil is lucky to have such a great sil, assisting in all difficult family situations. lol.

carol, that seems like a good rate, for the suite that you get.

btw, anyone know what was said in the deleted post?

Hanuman Aug 25th, 2012 08:43 AM

Yes Ken it was a first time poster trying to advertise a massage parlour, the kind that offer more than a massage.

Smeagol Aug 25th, 2012 08:47 AM

Hey Ken, when are you in BKK?

kuranosuke Aug 25th, 2012 09:27 AM

aloha nicky, i will be there from aug. 29-sep 8. how about you?

Smeagol Aug 25th, 2012 09:50 AM

Ahh shame I don't get there till the 16th! Sorry I'll miss you. Any plans to go back to Gaggan?

kuranosuke Aug 25th, 2012 09:58 AM

blast! too bad. where are you staying this time?

i'm always game for gaggan. hope i can squeeze it in.

Smeagol Aug 25th, 2012 10:23 AM

Hansar, so same area as last time, really looking forward to trying it out.

lcuy Aug 26th, 2012 05:22 PM

Ha- I'll keep Ken's seat warm for smeagol, as I'll be there Sept 12-15. Who can cover the 9th to 12th?

And if there is someone who overlaps with me on the 13th or 14th, do you want to go to Gaggan?

simpsonc510 Aug 26th, 2012 05:34 PM

The schedules are all interesting! Wish I would/could be there at that time. Bradinbangkok will be there from late on the 8th to the 18th. He is representing Bangkok at the expat pool tournament on the 15th at the Westin. Four cities are in the tournament this year: Bangkok, Jakarta, Singapore, and Shanghai. I'd love to watch it live, but that can't happen.

Lcuy, he'll be practicing his game a lot, so I doubt Gaggan would or could be in the schedule, even though he is there on the 13th/14th.

kuranosuke Aug 26th, 2012 11:35 PM

auwe, lucy. too bad. will clint be there?

MissGreen Sep 9th, 2012 04:01 AM

Hubby got offered a 'happy ending' from a recent Thailand massage.

rayong Sep 11th, 2012 11:33 PM

There are many "regular" massage places on Soi 8. Hope nobody is left with the impression that every shop you see is a "happy ending" place. Someone mentioned the small spa with the little water feature near the front of the soi, that is a nice place with decent prices.

The King & I on soi 12 is also pretty nice.

Hanuman Sep 11th, 2012 11:47 PM

A quick Google search for the king and I spa, add the word sex, and you will find several forum posts discussing how much they charge for a happy ending at the King and I.

If you don't want a sex massage i would strongly recommend Healthland or the top hotel spas.

rayong Sep 12th, 2012 12:08 AM

I will defer to Hanuman's expertise in that area. Guess he has recent experience. I went many times in 2011 and that was never an issue.

Hanuman Sep 12th, 2012 12:54 AM

Oh how clever rayong. I think the purpose of this thread is to suggest a suitable place for the OP to have a Thai massage. Your recommendation of the King and I spa on soi 12 happens to be a known place for sex services and I'm advising people to that point only. I don't really care to know if you have or have not had those services in the past.

Google "king and i spa soi 12 sex" and read some of the post in the sex forums and you will understand.

rayong Sep 12th, 2012 08:48 AM

Hanuman, there are a vast number of places to get a suitable massage outside of hotel spas. No need to cast a dark shadow over all establishments based on some random googling. I do know That the King and I was recommended to me by two five star hotels in the past. To be fair, things may have changed since 2011. But back then, it had a wide range of customers, to include couples, and small groups of well dressed men and woman, none of which looked like degenerates! But like restaurants, sometimes the environment changes. Enough said.
