guen--- a trip to CP silom now might be a waste of time as they are about to undergo a huge renovation
Hey Guen..Check out Centre POint Wireless if u r going to look At Centre Point properties. It is the best of the lot, most luxurious, etc, and it has a lovely central location, on wireless! I think u will like it! PLus, they have Studios, and balocnies too!
I have stayed a few times at Centre POint Silom..i do Love the location, the river~riews and great pool too. Some rooms/floors ar edef. better than others and i had only stayed in the renovated floors..I am a good resercher//with better furnishings and gorgeous wood floors..However, the majority of floors/rooms i did not like..But....Apparentlythey are renovating the whole lot at centre point silom and that is good news and the place has good potential, for river~followers.....I had even put in some reccos to CEtnre point mgt on my last stay..I am big on reccos to Mgt, chatting with mgt, as i kind of live in Hotels and always have a bit of things to say.. About Centre Point langsuan..I did not like it...I Found it to be an older/inferior property, especially compared to there nearbye and very lovely flagship property on Wirelss....They did have Big rooms at langsuan, but old carpets and No pool! No pool,, not for moi! The AScott Sathorn, hands down has so far been my FAve property, follpwed by the Somersets...As mentioned, i will continue my quest for the perfect Serv Apt in Bkk and probably stay at a few more in the next six months..Will keep u all posted.. And Guen..On another note..How about vacationing in India someday? Although they do not have a good selection of serviced apartments, they do have some superb and very luxurious hotels. I wld be happy to help u out//hook u up with some good hotel properties if you swing by! happy Travels..sawadeeka//Namaste! |
there is a pool at CP luang suan....you must have missed it and a big gym area too
Bob, yes, Centre Point seems decent for the price...however...personally when I walk into a place I don't want to feel like I'm REALLY living in someone else's space...although technically I am.But, it's sort of like wearing someone else's shoes and they just don't feel right. I need to live in a serviced space that at least fits my personality and style. Remember, I checked out the Marriot Residence on soi Langsuan... which was very nice, but it was definitely not me...with quite formal-looking furnishings and also as soon as I walked into the lobby I knew it was not for me. But, for someone who's into that, it would be perfect. Happy Travels!

Bonita...Thanks for the suggestion. I'll try checking out the Centre Point at Wireless. I started making a list over a month ago of new places to try out. There's also a place called Garden Grove(?) on Sukumvit soi 16. I probably walked right by it while walking to Tamarind Cafe vegetarian restaurant...which if I remember correctly was also on the same soi. And yes, Centre Point on soi Langsuan is an older property...rather depressing. I forgot that I had gone to that one until I found my notes.....I'll also stay with the Ascotts and Somersets in case I, at some point, have to move out of Emporium...the prices do rise there, quite a bit, and annually. It's good to have a back-up... And thanks for the India info/offer. Maybe one day I'll try it. However, I have no idea what part to even go to. It would be a one-week trip from Bangkok...during a December/January trip if I were to do it in the future...maybe 2007. I'd like to pick one place and stay there the whole week...and NOT move around. Have any suggestions? Just keep me far away from the snake charmer places...been there and done that back in Marrakesh...and can definitely do without it. Smiles. Happy Travels!

Yes, Bob! There is a pool at LANgsuan, but not a proper pool. I wld more call it a baby pool/wading pool.,it was tiny and curvy and it turned me off immediately...That was the reason i could not stay there! I need my evening twilight swim...

Guen, Bob and all! Let us keep up the search for the perfect Serviced apartment in BKK! I will surely continue my search when i go late sept, and report any new findings/udpates, etc.
India. Guen, Yes, I wld be happy to help u sort out a week in India, suggestions, info, etc. India is my thing, although i am chat chat chat about BKK too!. As a matter of fact, I fly all the time on Thai Airways to/fro both destinations, i either fly Bkk~Delhi or Bkk~Bombay, so first *u would have to figure out if u wanted to go North and fly into Delhi or go south, and use the the gateway of Bombay/Mumbai for ur trip! of course, u can also fly Bkk~Bangalore, o Bkk~calcutta, so many choices, really. In terms of where to go for one week in India, and not moving around, well, i have many ideas and suggestions and such. *But i do not really know what r ur interests, what u like, etc, cities, rurual, forts, palaces, history, leisure, shopping, relaxing, etc, so wld need to know more..if u want, perhaps drop me a line someday at [email protected] happy to help and we can India~chat, and pinpoint the exact right place for U. But Guen, if u came to India, i might suggest a wee bit of moving around, at least u will need to get out of the big city! From Delhi u can easily go to Agra, but wld def. not recco a week there..U might consider a week at a beautiful place in Rajashthan and stay at a lovely fomrer Palace or somethng..Some destinations that come to mind/ to consider wld be Jaipur, Jodphur, udaipur, etc.. However, if u do like cities, u might enjoy a week in bombay/Mumbai, versus Delhi..I find MUmbai much more livable and fun and exciting than Delhi, and this is from someone who lives on/off in Delhi.. And although it is not India, another place u might consider for a week, and a place i am also very connected with is kathmandu Nepal. U can also easily fly there from BKK too..many choices. This might be a good option for U too, of course, depending on what u like. But yes, u can easily spend a week in Kathamndu, no need to move and some great hotels too! I too ofetn go to KTM for a week or too.. @Do note Guen, there is the occasional snake or rather we call them "toursit" charmers in India, but they are few and far between..And India travel, nothing like Morocco travel! I too have been to Morocoo many many times, and the experiences are incomparable!!! i wld say, India wins hand down!~ namaste.,Sawadeeka.. ps..Like the paragraphs?? |
Bonita...How funny about the paragraphs. Smiles. With or without them is fine with me...doesn't bother me a bit...Thanks for all of the India info. Maybe I'll now consider India...it's just always seemed so overwhelming and crowded until I couldn't even comprehend it. Maybe I'll do Mumbai...I hear the shopping is good there...I laughed about the snake info that you wrote. There are three things I absolutely detest...snakes,lizards, and monkeys(so Kathmandu is out)...there's just no negotiating those three with me...I did, however, survive the cobras being everywhere in Marrakesh back in the early 80s. I'm less tolerant of such now....As for the serviced apartments, I was supposed to have started a serviced apartment thread after my Dec/Jan trip. I had posted, back in the fall of 2005, that I'd start such a thread when I got back, but was just too busy to do it. So, maybe we should just take notes for now and when our list gets really long, then start a thread. Or maybe, we can divide up certain areas of BK, among us,and check out places in our divided up areas and then report back...well...we've really highjacked this thread, huh? Smiles. Oh, where in the States are you from? I'm in L.A. County. Happy Travels!
Topped for Bonita...Happy Travels!
Hey Guen. yea, we certainly did get carried away/hijack with the thread, but at least we took it to good places!
Yes, maybe at a later date we can recap, and do a real serviced apt thread..perhaps this was just a warm~up! Happy to be involved. I love serviced apartments.. And very glad i got ur interest up on India! I tend to do that to People. I have been in/out of the Country for over 15 years, and am deeply devoted to the region, heart and soul! And yea, if yu do not like Moekeys we can rule out KTM. And if u do not like Snakes, well Rajastan might not be for U or kerala, for that matter. And if u do not like Lizards, well, i will leave that one out for now.,...But yea, Bombay might be good and still i have more ideas too..We can chat later on the subject and yes, more than happy to help out. So, I am from NY, but actually live in INdia about 8 months a year, but with frequent breaks to BKK too. I am back in NYC every summer, where i am now, and back to India via Bkk in sept. I guess i do the reverse communte of many Indians who work in the States and go to India for summer holiday..I am a American working in India who takes her summer holiday in NY..It is good for ME! alright, happy travels, sawadeeka, and for India, a big Namaste! |
We'll keep in touch, Bonita! I'm going to go out and buy a travel guide on Bombay this weekend. Happy Travels!
guen---buy a map too there is no more bombay....haha....its mumbai now...
Bob...you bugger...I know it's not Bombay anymore...I referred to it as Mumbai in a few posts above this one. I just like the sound of the word Bombay better...better music to the ears!Smiles. Ha...ha...ha...You say tomato...I say tomato...you say potato...I say potato...as the song goes! Bombay....Mumbai... Happy Travels!
I like Bombay too....sounds more exotic.
Mumbai....sounds like bob's mumbling, lol Aloha! |
I still call Myanmar Burma and Yangon Rangoon. I also like the sound better let's face it, Burma is easier to say than Myanmar. I also don't feel like recognizing the new names the regime imposed. Remember when the Khmer Rouge renamed Cambodia Kampuchea? Didn't recognize that one either.
HT....a high five to you...exactly...Bombay sounds more exotic and brings up visions of travel back in the days of steam trains, people dressing for dinner, and exoticism! Smiles. Happy Travels!
As if this thread did not digress enough, yes, it is fine fine fine to still call the city Bombay, and i can not help myself at times, as it just flows..
And funny, i remember way back when traveling to Bombay in 97 from KTM, and when i landed it was then MUMbai. So manhy other names of Indian cities also changed in those times.. anyways...Plenty of folk in India and elsewhere still refer to the city as Bombay but the change in 97 had to do with bringing back the original name before the Portuguese and british and restoring regional pride too. Bombay has more to do with the colonial past, some say a english corruption of a portuguese name to the settlement, Bom Bhai, good bay, which came to be Bombay,...blah blah blah.. The name MUmbai is the earlier name of the city and is related to a Hindu godess called MumbaDevi, the godess of Mumba..Whatever the case, Bombay/mumbai has always been one of my favorite cities in India..I just love the energy and the diversity there, the food, the people, and i have always had a soft spot for cities on the sea too I am actually considering shifting my India home base from Delhi to Mumbai...take care..happy travels..see u in Bollywood! namaste bonita.. |
Ok, I can't resist. Since we're totally off-topic, I have a great novel to recommend set in Bombay. It's a real page-turner. Shantaram by Gregory David Roberts
That book is SuperB! I just love it, love it, Brilliant! plus i really like the LEOPOLD RESTURANT in Colaba, which is often mentioned in the book. I go there all the time when in BOMBAy! Namaste..And i am sure u probabbly know they are making that book into a big hollywood film, with Johhy Depp!!
I didn't know that, Bonita. Johnny Depp - I'll have to go see it!
