UA EQM's

I am 17 miles short of enough eqm's on ua to reach another e-upgrade level. Can I take a cheap r/t flt on Aloha to qualify? Do Aloha Airlines miles count as EQM'S on ua's mileage plus program?

Aloha!

mrwunrfl Dec 12th, 2007 04:55 PM

No, they don't count as EQMs.

mrwunrfl Dec 12th, 2007 05:10 PM

Aloha is a UA partner but not in Star Alliance.

You could get a one-way HNL-OGG for $122 and $49 (or 5000 miles for an award) return on Aloha.

I'd call MP and ask them the question. Maybe they will give you a break without you asking. Then you could just ask.

mrwunrfl Dec 12th, 2007 05:11 PM

The $122 fare being on United.

For some reason I can't seem to put everything in one post today.

ms_go Dec 12th, 2007 05:29 PM

Too bad United doesn't sell the OGG-KOA flight (UA3) as an independent segment. That would be perfect!

Are you looking for miles toward e-upgrade level (e.g., 4 e/ups for every 10k) or elite level? If the former, those miles have to be on United metal, as opposed to EQMs for elite levels, which can come from any Star Alliance partner.

kuranosuke Dec 12th, 2007 06:05 PM

ht, do you have a ua mileplus visa credit card? i believe a certain value of purchases using the card will equate to eqms.

mrwunrfl Dec 12th, 2007 07:02 PM

ms_go is right, for the 500-milers only paid United flight miles count, not EQMs.

hawaiiantraveler Dec 12th, 2007 07:07 PM

thanks everyone that's what I thought....oh well

ken, I do have a mp platinum visa, how does it work?

Aloha!

mrwunrfl Dec 12th, 2007 08:10 PM

If you have a MP Platinum Visa and use it to purchase tickets at united dot com to fly on United then you will earn one EQM per dollar, up to 5000 EQMs per year. The annual fee is $140 which is paid by United if you are a 1K.

hawaiiantraveler Dec 12th, 2007 08:55 PM

thanks Bill! I am going the humble route. I am going to call UA and beg :)

hawaiiantraveler Dec 14th, 2007 09:27 AM

Just to follow up I called UA and half way through my "story" the agent mentioned that she had credited my account with the 17 miles and with a "Happy Holidays" thus restoring my faith in mankind.

Aloha!

mrwunrfl Dec 14th, 2007 11:27 AM

((Y))((Y))

I believe that the 500-miler e-certs don't post until the first Saturday of the month after reaching the required mileage.

The region-1 upgrades for 1K post the 2nd Saturday.

Forgot to mention that the platinum visa gives 5000 bonus EQMs the first year and 2500 bonus EQMs each year after.

ht, good news >:D<, tell me about it next week, and i'll tell you about my horror story when ua canceled my bkk flt home.>:O

simpsonc510 Dec 16th, 2007 07:48 AM

Ken
Pls share your UA cancellation story with other fodorites. Lots of us fly UA to and from BKK. I've never had a flt cancelled, personally. Brad and a friend had their NRT-BKK flt cancelled and they were put on ANA or JAL instead. There was a problem getting miles credited, but finally got the job done.

HT... good for you! I have usually found the UA reps to be very nice and helpful. Glad it worked out for you. Where's your next trip?

Carol

hawaiiantraveler Dec 17th, 2007 08:29 AM

Carol,

The agent was really friendly and am glad all worked out.

We are just back from a short shopping/eating jaunt to SFO and are going to Maui for our Silver Anniversary in Jan. After that it will be Japan for 4 weeks starting April 5. Haven't figured much after that but am sure Ken will be going somewhere soon :)

Ken, so what did happen in bkk, enquiring minds want to know, lol

Aloha!

mrwunrfl Dec 17th, 2007 11:05 AM

Silver! Congratulations, cradle robber!

kuranosuke Dec 17th, 2007 01:55 PM

bill, my exact sentiments. lol.

25 years, hmmm lets see..that brings down the cost of the designer jeans to 64e per year.

i'll post about my ua cacellation soon.

simpsonc510 Dec 18th, 2007 06:30 AM

HT
I'll join others in wishing you a happy anniversary! I think those designer jeans are a must-do! You've reached a big milestone.

Are you thinking about flying out to BOS in October??? We'd love to have you at the GTG.

Ken,
So what happened on UA?

Carol

hawaiiantraveler Dec 18th, 2007 09:38 AM

Carol,

Is there a date yet for the Boston GTG?

Aloha!

simpsonc510 Dec 18th, 2007 04:57 PM

Saw this same question elsewhere. I don't have a date yet. I am hoping it is once again during the first half of October. We'll have to see what Bob and Andy come up with.

Does that mean you are thinking about coming out?

Carol
