not flying all legs of trip?
Chance for a nice trip to London if I don't have to continue to Dublin! I found a flight on Lufthansa from NYC to Dublin, connection in London. What happens if I don't continue through to Dublin? Also, my return flight originates in Dublin - I can get a train or flight from London to Dublin for the return, but if I wasn't on that original flight to London, am I out of luck on the return?

Short answer: yes, you're out of luck if you miss a leg (or two) of your itinerary. Have you checked into a 'stopover' in London?
|
If you don't connect in London and continue on to Dublin, I believe your ticket is invalid for the return. The only leg of a trip that you dare to skip out on is the 'last' one. I have only done this twice in my lifetime. I bought a round trip ticket on a European airline between two European cities because the RT ticket was much cheaper than just the one way I needed. The other time was on a puddle jumper from OHare to my 'local' airport, after returning from Asia. I had a ride home rather than waiting hours at OHare for my puddle jumper. I just didn't get on that flight. No problem. But I don't do it habitually!

that's what I thought - thanks!

You can only miss the very last one. Missing any of the earlier legs screws up the rest of the ticket.

As Julia1 suggested, see if Lufthansa will allow a "stopover" ..... not sure if you can book online or will need to do so via phone w/ ticketing agent. Essentially you purchase a round trip ticket to/ from Dublin, however instead of flying from London to Dublin on same day you do so several days later ("stopping over" in London).

Are you sure the flight is on Lufthansa? I'm not aware of any Lufthansa planes flying form NY to London, or London to Dublin.
|
Yep, definitely Lufthansa - sale through tomorrow, I think.
|
The ticket may be Lufthansa, but the plane definitely won't be. Likely Continental from EWR.
|
I guess I should have said "through" Lufthansa rather than "on" Lufthansa. Sale fare available "through" Lufthansa, "on" their website.

Have you looked at a multicity or multisegment itinerary instead of a round trip? I do this frequently on Lufthansa; fly into one city and out of another for the same price as a round trip.
