I think if you are flying first class you should at least look decent. I think no one is buy a first class ticket so they can feel like high society. I think the want better food and better seats and more privicy then coach offers and I dont see nothing wrong with that.

To those who think you need to "dress up" a bit - do you think this also applies to very long international flights? We're flying MSP to Bangkok via LA, Tapei, and Kuala Lumpur. Total time, including layovers, of over 33 hours. Hoping to catch some sleep on the way, will try to make sure we're wearing what's most comfortable - jogging suits - silk and a little dressier than most - but still jogging suits.

joggin suit? what you going running? why dont just ware a pair of underwares with no shoes.

Im sorry but a joggin suit on a first class ticket over seas is ridicules.

If you're flying transoceanic first class (not business class), you'll often be given a pair of PJ's to change into anyway ;)

Really I could care less what fellow passengers are wearing. Sometimes I see passengers in long haul business change into more comfortable clothes after take off and change back prior to landing.

I generally wear a track suit or something similar on long flights - cross-country or international. Obviously I am not going jogging, but they are a heck of a lot less binding than other clothes, allowing me to sleep more comfortably.

I have never done first class overseas, but I have done business class in a jogging suit.

If others think it is ridiculous, then that is their choice. Doesn't bother me one bit.

I flew first from LAX to Sydney ( using FF tix).

I saw a couple of business men in very expensive suits change into warmup suits while the plane was boarding. Obviously, they were regulars.

Before landing, they change back into their business attire,

Somehow this thread changed from a discussion on whether shorts were appropriate on a plane into accusations of snobbery. I don't think that anyone said that ones' clothes need to be expensive -- they just need to be clean, not wrinkled, without holes & they should cover up backs, stomachs, upper arms, chests and legs. That would include blue jeans, khakis, and business suits.

As a concession to the 21st century, I think that warm-ups would be OK as long as they fit the above criteria. I guess I'd also prefer that they would fit well.
