AAFF: Wish me luck!
Taking my gf to San Francisco this weekend. She thinks that we're going there to say goodbye to my friend and his gf as they are getting ready for a permanent move to Croatia. That part is true.
What she doesn't know is that I will propose to her on Sunday evening.....:-D AA will get us there in first class and Hilton SF Square Union already upgraded us to a King 1 bedroom suite. The res manager was wonderful this morning as I explained the situation. I booked a regular room with a request to Exec Level room or Jr. Suite upgrade. He bypassed both of my requests and put us in a 2 room suite with a balcony overlooking the bay for the price of the reg room! He also promised a "surprise" manager treat on Sunday evening. He wouldn't tell me what it will be but he did tell me that it won't be just champagne??? Thanks Hilton SF! Anyway, wish me luck! |
You got it! I'm delighted for you. I'm quite sure you'll get the right answer, after all you come with all those FF miles! :)
|
Thanks!
She will get her first AA miles too! I signed her up for a Platinum challenge which will almost be completed with this 1 trip. She will get ~8000 points and will only need ~2000 more in next 2.5 months. We will be flying to Chicago next month so that will take care of that. She is somewhat confused about my "mileage obsession" but perhaps she will "see the light" when she becomes Platinum...:-D |
Hey, good luck! And congrat! :)
|
Congratulations. Watch out, she may catch your obsession and decide to earn her own million miles.
|
Hooray for you! Congratulations! ((%))
|
wow, AAFF, congratulations and good luck to you!!!
i can't wait to hear the story on monday! |
Even though I avoid AA like the plague, congratulations and best wishes to you, AAFF. Lucky girl!
|
Thanks everybody!
lynnejoel1015, actually you'll have to wait until Tuesday for a report. We're leaving tomorrow morning and coming back Tuesday afternoon. |
Can't wait. Also anxious to hear what the manager's surprise is going to be.
I bet you'll be planning some honeymoon trip! |
Surely AAFF there will be wireless internet access in your suite. We expect to be third in line for a news update, after your parents and hers.
|
AAFF - Now if we can just work on bringing you bAAck from the dAArk side, and over to UA, all will be well!!
Seriously, best wishes to you, I hope she appreciates the effort you've obviously put into this. BTW: When will we hear the 'same' news over on that "other" board that FF'ers frequent? :-D |
LOL, Dave! I was thinking the same thing (about the other board).
|
Dave,
I really wouldn't know where to post on Flyertalk? I only frequent AA and HHonors fora and neither is really applicable for this thread. Fodor's is more of a general travel forum and more personal, that's why I posted here. |
Good luck!
|
Wishing you the best of luck, AAFF.
|
ah yes, of course - you'll (ahem) be busy until tuesday! ;)
again, best wishes! |
Congrats AAFF!! =D> Best of luck this weekend. I will check back Tuesday to see how it went.
Tom |
AAFF: "I really wouldn't know where to post on Flyertalk?"
If you're OMNI-enabled, and I suspect you are, that'd be a good start. If you want lots of folks to 'join' you when you propose on Sunday nite - you could try "Community", and if nothing else, I suspect a post on either TravelBuzz or just the AA board will bring lots of well wishes. Best, Dave |
If she says yes, how many Frequent Flyer miles will she need to have in her "dowry."
|
This is not good.....
AA cancelled our morning flight and the "usually" exceptional EXP desk sucked this morning. We are still in TPA waiting for our DFW-SFO flight. We're suppose to leave in about 20 minutes. The AA ticket agent in TPA was exceptional and will get a very complimentry letter in his file. He put us on a flight that the EXP desk agent said she couldn't, oh well. My gf is not feeling well this morning which makes our first trip together not too impressive. I'm trying to impress her with my AA status and so far it's nothing but useless (except for the TA). We should be on our way shortly..... |
Awww, you'll look back & laugh at the snafus some day.
|
We made it to SF, but it was a VERY long day..........
The suite at the SF Hilton is not extravagant but it is nice. The bed is just heavenly!!!! It is 2 separate rooms but the bathroom is on the small side. The balcony with a view of the bay is what makes this suite wonderful! If anybody wants these spectacular views make sure you ask for even numbered, high floor rooms in tower 1. This hotel is HUGE. We're on the 44th floor in tower 1. The hotel has 3 or 4 towers. The Executive Lounge is a floor above us and the Cityscape Restaurant and Bar is 2 floors above us. Cityscape has magnificent views all around with 20 ft.+ floor to ceiling windows. The drink service sucked last night and it wasn't just us, (we were tired) because our friend that picked us up at the airport made the same comments. No biggie. My beautiful gf is still sleeping. I love this time of the morning as it gives me a chance to catch up on some of my work and it's my quiet time...... As I'm typing this I'm looking at a beautiful sunrise coming up over the far away hills across from the bay. Today it's just fun stuff in SF! See YA! :-D |
WOW - this is your first trip TOGETHER? And your going to proppose?
I'd be chicken to propose or accept till I saw how we traveled together! I assume from your name you fly alot; how is it you've never traveled together till now? Maybe it is a girl thing, but I like to know how I travel with someone -- I have had some bad travel partners and would have seriously had to think about making a committment to them. Luckily, by DH and I travel GREAT together. And it is different that dating/living together. Some folks are neat in a hotel room, others messy since it is a hotel and their is maid service; some folks like to plan their trips with specifics, others like to "wing"it; some like pools while others like oceans; some like museums, symphonies, shows while others like outdoors. While this type of stuff comes up on daily basis, sometimes while traveling you want to do something different than your normal and the other might or might not feel the same. OK, I"ve gone on too long about what started as a lightheated reply. Sorry, have too much time on my hands as I recovery from surgery. Feel free to ignore. Debi |
Deb - From where I came from, parents arrange for marriage, and the couple won't meet until the day of the wedding.
Wahahaha... :D |
I know Ray! I can't imagine that -- what if they left the top off the toothpaste, or the seat up/down??? OMG!!!
;) Debi |
I do understand your point Debi, but we've practically lived together for the last 4 months except when I travel. We get along beautifully at home so I don't really see a potential problem when traveling together. Besides, I'm just proposing now, not getting married just yet. We (kinda, sorta) had few pillow talks :-D about the possibility of marriage and we both agreed that if we take the next step we will wait at least a year to "finalize" the deal at the nearest altar.....
She can't travel with me in the forseeable future so these quick weekend getaways and annual vacations together will have to do it for us. Don't worry Debi, I didn't take your comments in any bad way. Having a wonderful day so far. The weather is just perfect. We just came back to the suite for a quick refresh and heading out soon to the Wharf area. See YA! |
Good Luck AAFF!This is quite exciting. Keep us posted!
|
I wonder if AAGF knows that her every move is being published on a public site and that thousands of people are keeping track of this thread? ;)
|
She did read the European trip so she does know about my Fodor's posts. For obvious reasons I can't tell her about this one until tomorrow night. I believe she will get a kick out of it.
|
I wonder if she's over at Trip Advisor posting as AASO wondering if AAFF is going to propose? :-?
|
AAFF, This is wonderful! Have a great time and I can't wait for the update Tuesday...
|
Going to be pretty sticky here for AAFF if she says "no" but guessing she won't, esp. since they've already speculated about having a year or so to "get used to" each other.
Kinda get debi's thought that no one should marry without traveling together (that's for sure the acid test), but maybe so what? I think this is all pretty romantic, but maybe that's just fine -- what's romantic about living together for 5 years and then proposing? |
Good luck! She will be so suprised and happy!
|
Best of luck, AAFF! You've picked a great place to propose--well, aside from Chicago anyway :) Looking forward to the "trip report."
|
AAFF has a laptop with him & it's MONDAY. insert biting nails emoticon here
|
D
R U M R O L L !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It's a YES! :-D Will post details tomorrow. |
Many congrats my friend!! As today is my 19th Anniversary, I can appreciate the happiness that you must feel. You really must come back from the dAArk side, however! ;-)
Best, Dave |
That is fabulous! When should we expect to receive our invitations? :)
|
Congratulations! ((L)) Now hurry up and give us the scoop!
