Bushbaby - any bird highlights for you? I am going to VP next year.

Mmm...let's see. Maribou Stork ( truly maginificent ), Slatey Egret, Wattled Crane (whose numbers are thankfully on the rise), the Rufus Bellied Heron, Pels fishing owl, Lilac Breasted Roller, Fish Eagle, Pied Kingfisher, Malachite Kingfisher...you won't be sorry!!

Pels - was that in camp?

Matt,

With one of the LV polers, I tracked and photographed a pair of Pels which are known to nest quite near to LV. You may want to enquire about this pair.

Cheers,
Julian

We went to LV back in 2001 and saw Pel's and were told by guides both at this camp and at others that LV was definitely one of the best places to see this huge owl.

We saw one in Jacana in 2004 too.

Julian and Kavey, you've made my new year. I really want to see a Pels, but can't bring myself to go to a water camp, so the news that there is a reasonable chance at VP makes me happy.

Napp, don't forget my sighting was at Little Vumbura - don't know how close VP is to LV so don't know if sightings are comparable. I hope so though!

I've got four days there so it shouldn't be a problem. Also it's only a few minutes boat ride away according to the website. The satellite camps are never far from teh main camp for economic reasons.

Makes sense...
I'll keep my fingers crossed for ya!

I didn't time my boat ride between the two, but it wasn't long -- definitely not more than 5-10 minutes.

Cheers,
Julian
