Planning to take a trip to Africa in 2009...need your advice.....I mainly would like to see animals and the meet the local people.....where should I go for the best value...This will be the trip of my lifetime so I do not want to make any mistakes....is it best to go with a Group like Colette or find a private tour guide....I will be traveling alone I would appreciate all your help as I believe I need to start planning real soon....thank you for your help,.

Unlike a private trip for 2, a solo trip is more expensive than a group departure. It is much more expensive if it is just you and the guide--typical of East Africa. It is somewhat more expensive if you fly from camp to camp and join others at each camp in the vehicle--as is typical in Southern Africa. Still, if you can afford it and are happy with your own company, it may be well worth your money. Sometimes I mix and match, doing some private and some group.

We are planning our wedding in South Africa in the Sabi Sands area which has great game viewing which gives you the opportunity to get closer to the animals, but not the great open savanah like the Serengeti.
